Pokemon GO Is Making Big Changes to Mega Evolution Charged Attacks

Pokemon GO Is Making Big Changes to Mega Evolution Charged Attacks

Pokemon GO is changing the battle mechanics around Mega Evolutions to give these creatures a new advantage for trainers who unlock their full potential. Starting right now, Mega-Evolved Pokemon that can reach Super Max Level in Pokemon GO can have up to three Charged Attacks, opening the door to new strategies not possible before. While there are some restrictions to this mechanic, it adds a promising layer of depth for players looking for more complex Pokemon GO gameplay.

As Pokemon GO celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, the game continues to grow and expand its roster of collectible Pokemon along with its gameplay elements. Helpful new features like quick appraisals make Pokemon GO more accessible than ever, and the consistent updates to battle mechanics keep gameplay fresh. As Pokemon GO comes off of a major presence at the Pokemon World Championships, the addition of more Charged Attacks for Mega Evolutions shows that the game has a lot of juice left even 10 years after its breakout success.

Pokemon GO Announces Twilight Trails, Debuts New Pokemon

A new season of Pokemon GO is around the corner, and the developers are showing off some of the new Pokemon players can expect to see.

Pokemon GO Adds Third Charged Attack for Mega Evolutions

Announced during the Pokemon World Championships’ closing ceremony, Pokemon GO is confirmed to be adding a third Charged Attack to certain Mega Evolutions while they are Mega Evolved. Previously, Mega Evolutions could only know two Charged Attacks alongside one Fast Attack. However, Pokemon GO Battle League participants can now add a third Charged Attack to any Mega Evolution capable of reaching Super Max Level.

  • Eligible Mega-Evolved Pokemon will know an additional Charged Attack, regardless of which Mega Level they are.
  • The power of the attacks will increase as the Pokémon’s Mega Level increases.

Mega-Evolved Pokemon won’t be able to use a third Charged Attack in Gym Battles at this time.

Unfortunately, the requirement of being a Super Max Level-capable Mega Evolution means the roster of Pokemon able to gain a third Charged Attack in Pokemon GO is limited right now. However, as more Mega Evolutions gain access to Super Max Level, they will get a third Charged Attack in the future.

Pokemon with two potential Mega Evolutions, like Mewtwo, will change which additional Charged Attack they get depending on which Mega Evolution form they take. Mega Mewtwo X gets Dynamic Punch+ while Mega Mewtwo Y gets Future Sight+. Mewtwo also gains Adventure Effects from these new Charged Attacks, with Mega Mewtwo X increasing the damage done during Mega Raids and Super Mega Raids, while Mega Mewtwo Y shows if a Pokemon is a three-star or higher during an encounter.
