Pokemon Home has officially updated and added support for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, allowing users to transfer critters from the classic GBA games into the storage service. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen support was announced back in August, following the release of the Kanto remakes on the Nintendo Switch in February. The update for Pokemon Home is now available for Switch users as well as mobile users on iOS and Android.
As the Pokemon franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary throughout 2026, The Pokemon Company continues to roll out new ways for fans to get in on the festivities. The surprise launch of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen back on Pokemon Day in February was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of anniversary celebrations, and Pokemon fans have been treated to releases like the 30th Celebration TCG set and a series of special Pokemon collabs in the months since. With Pokemon Home now supporting GBA game transfers, the door is now open for more surprise releases in the future.
Pokemon Home Finally Adds Support for FireRed and LeafGreen
• Added compatibility with Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen for Nintendo Switch.
• Players enrolled in a Premium Plan (paid) can now deposit 9,000 Pokemon, up from the previous 6,000. (The price of a Premium Plan in Pokemon Home is not changing.)
• Support for 32-bit Android devices is ending.
• Celebi unlocked in Home by completing the Pokedex.
With the update to Pokemon Home version 4.1.0, users can now transfer the Pokemon captured in both FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch to their storage boxes in Home. Unfortunately, once these Pokemon have been transferred, they won’t be able to go back to FireRed or LeafGreen, so users will need to carefully consider which mons they want to transfer. Additionally, Pokemon from other entries in the series can’t be transferred to FireRed and LeafGreen either, making this process a one-way street.
Along with Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen support, Pokemon Home now allows users to store 9,000 total Pokemon in their boxes. This marks a 3,000-spot increase from the previous version, giving players plenty of room to transfer in their complete FireRed and LeafGreen Pokedex. However, the patch notes for this update also note that Pokemon Home support for 32-bit Android devices will be ending.
Users can also claim a free Celebi in Pokemon Home by completing the Pokedex. To earn this Gen 2 Mythical Pokemon, users will need to have transferred the complete Kanto Pokedex from either FireRed or LeafGreen, with progress across both versions counting toward the total. Afterwards, a level 50 Celebi will be available within Pokemon Home, but it should be noted that users won’t be able to transfer this Celebi back to FireRed or LeafGreen.
Mew does not count toward the complete Kanto Pokedex needed to claim this Celebi.
The lingering question after this Pokemon Home update is the status of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on Nintendo Switch. As the other Gen 3 Game Boy Advance games, many fans expected the Hoenn games to make it onto the Switch after FireRed and LeafGreen, and rumors suggested this was a likely outcome. However, there hasn’t been any official word from Nintendo or The Pokemon Company on this front, so it remains unclear if or when fans can expect these ports to drop.
