Pokemon Pokopia Is Now The Most Critically-Acclaimed Pokemon Game Ever

Pokemon has a long and storied videogame history, but the most critically-acclaimed yet is no longer from the mainline role-playing games as you might have expected.

Instead, Pokemon Pokopia, the latest adaptation that replaces battles with building, is now the highest-rated Pokemon game currently on Metacritic. Reviews are still being published, but Pokemon Pokopia currently sits at an average of 89 after 53 reviews at the time of writing. That puts it a single point ahead of the next on on the list, Pokemon X / Y, and ahead of fan favorites like Pokemon Black and White, Pokemon Sun and Moon, and well ahead of the series latest game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which sits at an average of 78.

Considering Pokemon’s latest mainline entry, Pokemon Winds and Waves, is only set to launch in 2027, Pokemon Pokopia could be the best way to get your Pokemon fix and melt the time away. GameSpot’s 9/10 Pokemon Pokopia review praised the game’s combination of Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders, saying “Pokemon Pokopia gives you a massive amount to do and a story that propels you forward, while also letting you enjoy the simple pleasure of living among your Pokemon friends and building your perfect community.”

It’s been a busy week for Pokemon too, with a release date for Pokemon Champions also being announced during the Pokemon Presents stream that aired recently.
