A lot of the details surrounding the upcoming Pokemon Gen 10 games, allegedly titled “Wind and Wave,” has been leaking ahead of an official announcement. Although the existence of these Gen 10 games has yet to be officially confirmed, the massive Teraleak of Pokemon information from last year included the revelation that Pokemon Wind and Wave will take place in a region based on Indonesia, complete with new battle mechanic and numerous islands to explore. Now, even more details have emerged about the content contained on these islands, including the Pokemon types associated with the games’ major battles.
As Pokemon approaches its 30th anniversary later this month, it seems inevitable that the lid will be ripped off of the future of the series and Pokemon Wind and Wave will officially be revealed. Pokemon has a tradition of airing Pokemon Day presentations on February 27 that highlight the upcoming games fans can expect to see, and this year is a particularly important milestone for the franchise. With that in mind, it’s unlikely that every detail of Pokemon Wind and Wave will be announced this month, but based on the leaks that have already occurred, fans may still have a clear picture of the types of major battles they will need to face once the games launch, including the Elite Four.

Another large Pokemon Gen 10 leak reveals nine environments from the upcoming games, one of which has some pretty substantial implications.
Pokemon Wind and Wave’s Elite Four Are Already Clear
Although the Pokemon series has deviated from this tradition in the past, most mainline Pokemon games feature the Gym Challenge, consisting of 8 badges players need to obtain before heading on to face the Elite Four and Pokemon Champion. Recent entries like Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Legends: Z-A switched up this formula, but the generation headlining titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have largely stuck to it after Gen 7’s Pokemon Sun and Moon traded Gyms for Island Trials. While there’s no guarantee that Pokemon Wind and Wave will stick to the traditional Gyms and Elite Four, a recent leak suggests that this will be the case, even including the Gym and new Majin battle types players will encounter.

According to Centro LEAKS on X, who has provided a large bulk of the leaked information about Pokemon Wind and Wave so far, these are the types associated with the major battles in the upcoming Gen 10 games. The 8 Pokemon Gyms in Wind and Wave seem to follow a familiar trend for the franchise, starting with an early-game Grass-type Gym like Gardenia in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Milo in Sword and Shield, and Brassius in Scarlet and Violet. It’s also notable that Wind and Wave will allegedly feature only the second Dark-type Gym in the franchise, after Sword and Shield introduced Piers and the Dark-type Spikemuth Gym.
New to Pokemon Wind and Wave are the “Majin” battles, which are supposedly Gen 10’s battle gimmick, like Terastallization in Gen 9 or Dynamax in Gen 8. These battles are said to be related to the weather surrounding a certain area, meaning players will likely face off against either trainers or powered-up critters that utilize some type of terrain advantage. It will be interesting to see how types like Psychic and Ghost relate to the weather, but the Pokemon franchise has a history of getting creative with its generational battle mechanics.

If Wind and Wave is Anything Like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, These Are Going to Be the Elite Four Types
Of Pokemon‘s 18 types, only 14 are represented by the major battles leaked in this list. This leaves Electric, Water, Bug, and Dragon absent from the game’s key battle line-up, suggesting that they could be reserved for the Elite Four. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet made sure to include a major battle for each of the 18 types, so players would have to prepare to face a tough opponent of every type at some point in their journey. The Elite Four of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet do share some overlap with the Titan Pokemon, featuring Rika as the Ground-type specialist, Poppy as the Steel-type specialist, Larry as the Flying-type specialist, and Hassel as the Dragon-type specialist. However, none of the other major trainer battles overlap with these types, and all 18 types are represented in some way, including Rock with the Titan Klawf. If Pokemon Wind and Wave want to follow this trend, then it only makes sense that the remaining unused types would make up the Elite Four’s type specialties.

Why Electric, Water, Bug, and Dragon Make Sense for Pokemon Wind and Wave’s Elite Four
Aside from Electric, which hasn’t been featured as an Elite Four type specialty, these other types all have Elite Four members from past generations associated with them. Pokemon X and Y‘s Siebold is a Water-type specialist in the Kalos Elite Four, and Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum‘s Aaron is a Bug-type specialist in the Sinnoh Elite Four.
The Dragon-type is the most common type represented in the Elite Four, with notable trainers including Lance, Drake, Drasna, Hassel, and Drayton. As such, it would make sense for Wind and Wave to continue on the Dragon-type Elite Four member representation, while adding more representation to the underserved Bug and Water-types, and giving the Electric type its first Elite Four specialist.
