Pokemon Winds and Waves Leak Points to the Biggest Region Yet

Pokemon Winds and Waves Leak Points to the Biggest Region Yet

Pokemon Winds and Waves may have the series’ largest region by a long shot, if a recent leak is accurate. Game Freak has had some trouble keeping details about Gen 10 under wraps, with plenty of information leaking well ahead of the games’ official announcement. While the studio has finally unveiled Pokemon Winds and Waves, that hasn’t stopped leakers from teasing new information, and one of these rumors could be exciting news for fans.

After releasing the first official trailer, The Pokemon Company has largely kept quiet about what players can expect from the upcoming generation. Still, there was a lot to dig into in the three-and-a-half-minute video, including signs that Winds and Waves could be Pokemon‘s biggest open-world games to date. If true, that’s a welcome development after Legends: Z-A‘s relatively small map left many wanting more, and now there’s even more reason to believe Gen 10 will take things to new heights.

Pokemon Gen 10 Leak Reveals 9 New Environments With Huge Implications

Another large Pokemon Gen 10 leak reveals nine environments from the upcoming games, one of which has some pretty substantial implications.

Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Leaked Map Looks Like the Biggest Region Yet

On April 24, prominent Pokemon leaker Centro Leaks revealed Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ map and gym locations, reaffirming the longstanding rumor that the generation will feature an archipelago heavily inspired by Indonesia and other Southeast Asian nations. Eight hours later, they claimed all environments shown off in the official trailer are from just the first island. Considering the sheer range of different biomes in the reveal, that could easily give Winds and Waves the franchise’s biggest map yet. This first island is one of the larger ones, but there are at least two others of similar sizes on the map, and if they all have this level of diversity, Gen 10’s region could make every previous one seem minuscule by comparison.

Centro did not offer any specifics on how large the world is, only saying it will be “a huge region.” Still, there is reason to believe it could be the series’ biggest beyond just this look at the map. When Winds and Waves comes out, it will end the longest gap between Pokemon generations in franchise history at roughly five years. That extended wait means more time to develop a larger world and iron out the kinks. Similarly, Winds and Waves is a Switch 2 exclusive, so it can take full advantage of the newer, more powerful hardware to support a bigger, potentially more complex map than previous generations limited by older systems.

Size isn’t the only thing to note here. If the entirety of the first trailer takes place on one island, it also means there will be a huge variety of Pokemon in one zone of the map. As Centro’s post highlights, the reveal showed off water, bug, ghost, and grass-type Pokemon, to name a few, in environments ranging from jungles to coral reefs to cities. Newer Pokemon games do feature a lot more type variety in a single area than earlier entries, but even aside from typing, there is a massive array of different Pokemon in this one island. It is rumored that Winds and Waves will have procedurally-generated islands, so if that’s true, then there could be an even greater variety to encounter than what the trailer shows off.

While official details are still scarce, there seems to be a lot to get excited about. The Pokemon franchise is in the middle of a hot streak right now, and if these glimpses at Winds and Waves are what they seem, that could continue into 2027. As with all leaks, these suggestions about the map size and Pokemon variety are just rumors for now, but if they’re true, Gen 10 has big things in store, literally.
