A Pokemon Winds and Waves leak claims that Psyduck will be getting a regional variant in the Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as a pair of new evolutions. Little information has been revealed about Pokemon Winds and Waves so far, and fans continue to speculate about when there will be another update from developer Game Freak. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been out for more than four years, and fans are going to be waiting even longer for the next full Pokemon generation to begin.

The starters from Pokemon Winds and Waves were revealed in February, but no additional Pokemon have been shown since then. It remains to be seen exactly how many new Pokemon will be introduced, but each new region tends to add a significant number. It’s likely that The Pokemon Company will slowly reveal more in the run-up to the launch of Winds and Waves, with others being held as a surprise for when the games become available.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Might Offer a New Take on Psyduck

Several Pokemon have received regional variants over the years, and it seems Psyduck could be getting that treatment in Pokemon Winds and Waves. According to a new leak, Psyduck’s regional variant will apparently be an Ice/Psychic-type. This version of Psyduck allegedly won’t evolve into Golduck, but will instead have two new evolutionary forms. This type of regional variant has been seen in the past, with Galarian Meowth evolving into Perrserker, rather than Persian.

Until Game Freak officially announces a regional variant for Psyduck, it’s impossible to judge the accuracy of the leak. Psyduck has long been one of the most popular Pokemon though, and it has yet to receive a regional variant. Fans have come up with Psyduck regional variant concepts over the years, so it makes sense that the developers at Game Freak might have decided to design an official version.

There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding Pokemon Winds and Waves, in large part because these will be the first mainline games exclusively available on Nintendo’s new system. A Switch 2 version of Pokemon Legends: Z-A came out in 2025, and the spin-off Pokopia was released earlier in 2026. Pokemon Winds and Waves will mark the first time that a new generation has been created specifically with Switch 2 in mind, so the developers have an opportunity to push the capabilities of the new hardware.

Pokemon Winds and Waves won’t be out until 2027, and Nintendo has yet to offer a more specific release window. The Pokemon Company tends to favor the holiday season as a release window for mainline games, so it’s possible there could still be a substantial wait ahead for fans. If that ends up being the case, there might not be another official look at the games until the next Pokemon Day, which takes place every year on February 27. The occasional leak and rumor will have to do in the meantime, but hopefully fans will be treated to something more substantial soon.
