Pokemon games have always had to balance new additions with familiar faces, and Pokemon Winds and Waves are shaping up to be no different. Every new Pokemon generation brings another batch into the series, but the returning creatures can be just as important for establishing what a new Pokedex looks like. With Pokemon Winds and Waves still building toward release, the confirmed roster is already giving players a pretty good idea of what to expect.
The Pokemon Winds and Waves Pokedex is also pulling from several different generations instead of focusing on one particular era. Some of the earliest Pokemon are represented by the Pikachu line, the Oddish line, Krabby and Kingler, Tangela, and so forth, while there’s plenty of room for later-gen Pokemon too, like Sizzlipede and Nymble. So far, 54 Pokemon have been officially confirmed for Pokemon Winds and Waves.
Pokemon Winds and Waves’ New and Returning List
Other notable Pokemon include the Taillow line, the Wingull line, and the Wailmer line, all fitting the unique themes shown off for the upcoming Pokemon games so far, alongside fan-favorites like the Duskull line. These reveals make it clear that the game’s Pokedex is pulling from a wide range of Pokemon rather than relying exclusively on the most popular ones, even if it leans toward Water and Flying right now.

Below is the full list, with it worth noting that confirmation of one (Pikachu, for example) has been treated as confirmation of the entire line (Pichu and Raichu, for example). In theory, Pikachu could appear in the game without its pre-evolution or evolution, but that would be incredibly odd. It’s also worth noting that every starter Pokemon in history has been a three-stage Pokemon, so the reveal of Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ starters (Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua) is also treated as full, three-stage evolution lines.

Unlike the returning Pokemon in Pokemon Winds and Waves, these starters are creatures players will have to learn as part of the new generation, as well as whatever else Game Freak confirms. It’s also worth noting that the Pokemon Winds and Waves reveal trailer also showed Pokemon from other regions in a book, a fairy tale-like story, and so they are not shown in the game (but are in the trailer). For now, those reveals bring the total to 54 confirmed Pokemon for Pokemon Winds and Waves. It remains to be seen how Pokemon Winds and Waves is approaching its National Pokedex, but there’s a good chance that the Nintendo Switch 2 generation of Pokemon games will cut a fair few, including fan-favorites. Hopefully, it doesn’t take the entire era to have every Pokemon in Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games.
