Pokemon Pokopia is running into issues with house size limits, which are currently too small to support the great big buildings that many players want to make into their homes. While Pokemon Pokopia has been a smashing success as the first big first-party life sim on the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s also lagging behind some other games in the genre when it comes to letting players flex their creativity.
Although most Pokemon traditionally live in the wild, there are also a bunch of in-game options for interior design fanatics to get creative with. Players have used the game’s building tools to come up with creative designs for homes, including popular restaurants, and have even constructed a fully functioning subway system in Pokemon Pokopia, showing that there are next to no limits to what the game will allow skilled players to make.
Pokemon Pokopia Reveals Plans for Future Updates and Game Improvements
Pokemon Pokopia gives players a heads up regarding known issues within the game and provides insight into future plans and game improvements.
Pokemon Pokopia Players Want Bigger Houses
However, houses in Pokemon Pokopia can only technically be assigned as homes if their interior space is no bigger than 100 square blocks, which does not need to be a perfect square. While the game was only released on March 5, dedicated players have already been able to complete some truly massive structures, though some are just too big to become actual homes. That’s become a problem for players like Reddit user Horror-Algae-4867, who recently shared an image of a “huge manor” they had built with the intention of making it into a house before realizing they had gone over the build limit. The building is still perfectly functional and is currently being used as a party space, but it’s missing out on some of the special features that actual in-game homes provide, such as alternative habitats for various Pokemon.
For those who want to make large structures into homes, there is a workaround. One building can be split up into multiple rooms, and as long as each fits under the size limit and has its own door leading to a non-home area, like the outdoors or a shared hallway, then one individual building can technically support multiple homes. This method fixes problems for many who have been left stranded with unusable structures, but some players feel it stifles their creativity by not allowing them to make big, functional interior spaces to house their characters and provide habitats for their Pokemon.
There have been multiple suggestions from the community about how the development team could make this issue a little easier to manage. Some have suggested that the game could allow players to make Pokomon Pokopia habitats out of furniture, which could divide large interior spaces into individual “rooms” without the need for walls and doors separating them. Another controversial suggestion would involve the game giving players a pop-up message when they’re building a structure that’s too large to hold a single home, although some players believe that would be more of a hassle than it’s worth. Still others have suggested the game could allow players to set up a wireframe to measure out home spaces, much as it does with building kits.
The size of potential homes isn’t the only construction-related feature in Pokopia that’s driving players up a wall. Players have also sounded off in droves regarding the accuracy of controls when selecting objects to move, with players frequently finding they’ve grabbed onto the wrong object when building or decorating their homes. Using the Switch 2’s mouse controls has helped a lot of players to get around this issue, but some report that the inaccuracies are so great that they’ve accidentally grabbed a fan off the ceiling while aiming at a rug. This is particularly a problem when a player accidentally removes one of the doors in Pokemon Pokopia, as doing so will not only remove everything else inside the home area, but it will leave any Pokemon that were residing there homeless.
