A Pokemon Pokopia player has created a surprising way to Rick Roll friends using the game’s creative systems. There really seems to be no limit to Pokopia‘s creativity, as fans so far have created everything from a real-world-inspired Pokemon Center store to Pokemon Gold and Silver‘s Bell Tower.
For the uninitiated, or perhaps the youngest members of the audience, Rickrolling is an internet meme that originated in 2007, saw the height of its popularity in 2008, and has seen numerous resurgences over the years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The gist involves baiting and switching someone by using a disguised hyperlink that leads to the 1987 Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up” instead of what it is said or supposed to be. It also refers to when someone plays the song in an unexpected way. Overall, the popularity of the meme has led to YouTube’s official video of “Never Gonna Give You Up” crossing 1 billion views in 2021 (and has continued to skyrocket since then), and now, a Pokopia player has created a tunnel dedicated to Rickrolling.

Pokemon Pokopia’s Rick Roll Railway
Redditor Luneli recently shared their creation on the Pokopia subreddit. At first, it seems like a typical railway created through a tunnel in the game with some music elements. Luneli revealed that they spent hours trying to understand the music system, but eventually “gave up and made this instead.” Giving up in this context means creating a solid recreation of a popular meme and song, I guess, as now every passenger gets hit with a little rick roll upon arrival. “No regrets,” Luneli said.

In the comments, user Sad-Cantaloupe2671 wished that Pokopia featured silent tracks, and Luneli expressed similar thoughts. They had tried a few ways to silence the tracks to make the Rick Roll a little better, like using specific Pokemon in Pokopia, but this was all that was possible at the time. Luneli was quite appreciative of all the accolades fans were given them, including but not limited to,
However, this is not the end for Luneli. In response to GPAnimations, Luneli revealed that they’ve “escalated” their creation and “more is on the way.” The safest assumption, of course, is bigger, more grandiose, and/or longer Rickrolling loops coming to Pokopia soon, and that is a hilarious thing to think about in 2026.
Pokopia’s Creativity is Unlimited
Give a gamer a sandbox, and they’ll make a sand castle. Such creativity has been true for Minecraft players, Animal Crossing players, and basically any franchise with a solid sandbox with tons of creative features.
In hindsight, it was really a matter of time before a Pokemon life sim was made and gave fans this freedom in a world inspired by the critters. Rickrolling may not have been the first thing to come to many minds, but the fact that it did for Luneli makes the internet just a slightly heartwarming place. In full agreement, creating the Rick Roll Railway was an excellent use of free will and the greatest thing on the internet that many will see, at least for a day or two.
