Capcom has just confirmed that Pragmata, its recently released Sci-Fi action-adventure game, has sold 2 million copies. This news comes just 20 days after Pragmata‘s launch on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
Pragmata received a very warm welcome upon its April 17 release date, especially from critics. On OpenCritic, Pragmata is currently sitting at a Top Critic Average of 86 with a recommendation score of 96%, with outlets like IGN giving the game an 8/10 and GameSpot giving it a 9/10. GameRant’s own Dalton Cooper gave Pragmata a 7/10, praising the game’s “innovative” combat but taking issue with its short length and “predictable story.” As well as a very positive critical reception overall, Pragmata has enjoyed a strong commercial start, with Capcom confirming that Pragmata had already sold one million copies in its first three days.

Pragmata Celebrates 2 Million Copies Sold
Now, three weeks after launch, Capcom has announced that Pragmata has reached another major milestone. On May 7, the official Pragmata Twitter account made a post stating that Pragmata has now sold “over 2 million copies worldwide.” This post was accompanied by a video of Pragmata‘s Diana holding up a hand-drawn sign that says “2,000,000 units, Thank You!!” This short 12-second video continues a long-term piece of Pragmata marketing that saw Diana writing notes to fans the few times that the game was delayed. Thankfully, now she’s relaying a positive message.

Shortly after this announcement, Pragmata‘s official Twitter account made another post, this time sharing a message from the game’s director, Cho Yonghee. This message reads:
“I’m excited to share that over 2 million players have joined Diana and Hugh on their lunar journey! The dev team is blown away by the warm support so many of you have expressed for PRAGMATA, so here’s an illustration to express our gratitude. To all players, thank you so, so much.”
Pragmata isn’t the only major AAA title Capcom has released this year, however. Resident Evil Requiem made its long-awaited debut on February 27, and just two months later, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem had sold over 7 million copies. Of course, Resident Evil is widely considered to be Capcom’s flagship franchise, so a direct comparison with Pragmata — an experimental Sci-Fi title based around an all-new IP — isn’t quite fair.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Instead, Pragmata‘s strong early sales should be compared against other original IPs that Capcom has released in recent years. Exoprimal, for instance, released in July 2023 and had reportedly sold just under one million copies by the end of September 2023. Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, the 2024 action-strategy game that is said to have failed to meet Capcom’s sales expectations, is another good example. When compared to these other original titles developed by Capcom, Pragmata stands tall, with its two million copies sold putting it in a much better spot, much earlier in its post-launch life cycle.
