Fans can look forward to a brand-new PS5 controller, with pre-orders now open for the limited-edition Gran Turismo DualSense celebrating one of PlayStation’s longest-running franchises. The latest PS5 controller arrives later this year and will only be available in limited quantities worldwide, so fans should act fast.
Special-edition DualSense controllers have become a regular part of the PS5 generation, with Sony releasing designs inspired by games like Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, God of War, and several other major PlayStation releases. While some limited designs have been much more elaborate than others, they increasingly serve as another popular piece of merchandise alongside PlayStation’s biggest launches and anniversaries. Sony’s newest controller follows that same approach, but this time it’s aimed squarely at players who have been with Gran Turismo for the past 30 years.
Gran Turismo’s Limited-Edition DualSense Launches December 10
Pre-orders are now live for the Gran Turismo Limited Edition DualSense Controller, which celebrates the racing franchise’s upcoming 30th anniversary. The controller features a white base with black racing stripes and motorsport-inspired graphics, plus a textured, carbon fiber-style front plate. Like most limited DualSense controllers, this one costs $84.99 in the US and will launch globally on December 10, with Sony warning that quantities will be limited. Fans can also go to PlayStation Direct and participating retailers like Best Buy and Amazon to lock in their purchase while they can. It won’t shave a second off anyone’s lap time, but the racing stripes, carbon-fiber texture, and small motorsport details definitely make a strong case for this being one of Sony’s best-themed DualSense designs so far.
Sony’s new controller timing also makes sense, given how active Gran Turismo 7 remains more than four years after launch. Spec IV Part 1 recently added Sportsland Sugo, six additional cars, new World Circuit events, Car Viewer features, and an Experience mode, while Part 2 arrives in December with another six cars, the returning Autumn Ring circuit, Family Mode, Shuffle Races, Online Drift Trials, and more. Even four years after launch, Gran Turismo 7 feels less like a game Polyphony is winding down and more like one it intends to carry into the series’ 30th anniversary, with more to come.
The original Gran Turismo debuted in Japan in 1997, and the franchise has since surpassed 100 million copies sold worldwide by 2025. As the series heads toward 30 years, its new controller and sizable Spec IV update kick off the celebration early while highlighting how much GT7 has evolved since its 2022 release. What began with a somewhat rocky launch has grown into a racing game supported by years of new content, VR functionality, Sophy AI, and regular free updates.
What comes after Gran Turismo 7 remains less clear. Sony and Polyphony Digital still haven’t announced Gran Turismo 8, and the size of Spec IV suggests the current game certainly isn’t ending support anytime soon. The franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2027 could definitely be a natural opportunity for Polyphony to discuss its future, but even then, a new game could be years out. A new Gran Turismo is almost certainly somewhere in PlayStation’s future, but Sony doesn’t seem ready to park GT7 just yet. For now, its 30th-anniversary controller gives longtime fans something new to add to the garage while Polyphony keeps the current game on track.
