U.S. President Donald Trump and his staff are capitalizing on the popularity of Pokemon Pokopia, the new life sim game for Switch 2, to promote the Make America Great Again agenda by using a popular meme generator. Pokemon Pokopia is already proving itself to be a success with reviewers, and it seems that someone involved with the White House’s social media team is entertained by it as well.
Pokemon Pokopia was released on March 5, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Casting players as a Ditto that has taken the form of a human, the new game gives players the goal of using its crafting and building mechanics to make their deserted island home much more comfortable for the wide variety of Pokemon that live there. Early impressions have left fans comparing Pokemon Pokopia to Minecraft, with its intentionally blocky landscape, and to Animal Crossing, with its roots tied in befriending a wide variety of Pokemon and building up their island home.

The White House Joins In on the Pokemon Pokopia Meme Craze
Days before the game’s launch, social media sites became flooded with images of Pokemon Pokopia‘s title screen, but with the text altered by a font logo generator available at Pixelframe. This text generator has been used to relay a wide variety of messages, ranging from adult jokes about the Pokemon franchise to simple status updates completely unrelated to the game. On the same day of Pokemon Pokopia‘s release, the White House’s official Twitter team has joined in on the craze as well, sharing a generated image that simply reads, “make america great again,” using the special, brightly-colored font’s all-lowercase print style and mirroring the catchphrase that Trump has been using ever since his successful 2016 presidential election campaign against Hillary Clinton.
The new Twitter post doesn’t say much beyond the image, other than a header that reads “MAGA,” accompanied by emojis of the United States flag and a lightning bolt. Still, it was enough to draw up controversy, as numerous replies feature more generated Pokemon memes using the same format.
This is not the first time in recent memory that the official White House Twitter account has used video games to reach out to the American public. Just a few days prior, White House staff used Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 footage to promote the current military involvement in Iran, showing raw gameplay video before cutting to a montage of real-world footage of missile strikes laid over Childish Gambino’s “Bonfire.” Actor and filmmaker Donald Glover, who uses Childish Gambino as his musical persona, does not publicly use social media and has not issued an official response, though he has publicly opposed Trump in the past, with his 2018 work This is America widely viewed as a criticism of Trump’s political agenda.
It’s also not the first time someone within Trump’s administration has made use of Pokemon for promoting divisive political action. In September 2025, the official White House TikTok account shared a similar montage of Department of Homeland Security and ICE agents arresting several individuals, presumed to be undocumented immigrants, while the original English-language theme song from the Pokemon anime played. That video used the franchise’s “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” slogan to draw a parallel, and it also incorporated images of a closing Poke Ball and anime protagonist Ash Ketchum cut in among actual footage of agents patting down suspects, handcuffing them, lifting their clothing, and displaying many of their faces, names, and alleged crimes. The Pokemon Company publicly stated that it did not grant permission for use of its intellectual property in that video, but has not escalated the matter.
