PS Plus Extra Survival Game Gets a Massive Update

PS Plus Extra Survival Game Gets a Massive Update

The number of changes to the PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers makes keeping up with everything even more difficult, with the PS Plus free games for August 2026 announcement changing days and Extra and Premium games being spread throughout the second half of the month, and so it’s understandable if folks have missed the upcoming update to an open-world survival-crafting game coming to PS Plus. The good news is there’s still time.

Indeed, it’ll be interesting to see how this PS Plus experiment ends, but abandoning the formula means fans do not know when to expect news, reveals, or additions, making everything more missable. For example, the PS Plus free games for August 2026 announcement hit early and could have been easily overshadowed by the fact that the PS Plus Extra games for August 2026 were added on the same day. And those deal with ending July and wrapping up August, to say nothing about the planned PS Plus game for September 2026.

Day-One PS Plus Survival-Crafting Game for September Gets Massive Update Ahead of Time

Earlier this year, PS Plus revealed several upcoming day-one games (such as Big Walk for August 4), and it confirmed RuneScape: Dragonwilds would come to PS Plus Extra as a day-one PS5 game on September 15. It is currently available on PC, however, as its final months of Early Access wind down ahead of its 1.0 release (corresponding with its PS5 release). And because of that, it’s worth noting how its newest July 29 update (0.12.1) changes the game ahead of its PS Plus debut.

  • Agility Skill has been upgraded with new ways to improve, gain XP, new skill spell allocations, and more
  • New Challenges and Rewards
  • New Mechanics tied to the Agility Skill
  • New Skill Spells like Windstep
  • New Shortcuts Discoverable around the Open World of RuneScape: Dragonwilds
  • Improved Movement Features, like slower stamina drain tied to Agility Level Increases
  • Several core, UI, skill upgrades, and quality of life features like improved responsiveness to blocking, damage telegraphing, and ammo switching functionality
  • Casting some spells now reduces movement
  • The Mystic Forge will now allow players to upgrade Masterworks and Weapons to higher tiers

RuneScape: Dragonwilds Update 0.12.1 completely overhauls the Agility skill, adding new progression options, traversal mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements. Agility now plays a much bigger role in exploration, allowing players to move around the open-world PS Plus game faster while unlocking new ways to navigate dangerous environments. Six new fixed-route Agility courses have been added, complete with leaderboards, gold medal challenges, and exclusive rewards for players looking to master each course.

The update also expands movement options throughout RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Players can now perform a horizontal dash after double jumping, unlock a second dash at higher levels, and gain passive Agility experience while traveling across the world. A new breakfall system reduces the punishment for dangerous drops, allowing players to roll after non-lethal falls and continue moving. Higher Agility levels also reduce stamina costs while sprinting, increase carrying capacity, improve jump height, and provide better control while exploring.

Alongside the Agility changes, Jagex has included several additional improvements that will benefit players arriving through PlayStation Plus Extra (and obviously those on PC with Early Access to this update). The update improves blocking responsiveness, increases enemy damage warning times, adjusts ammunition switching, and changes how certain spells affect movement. The Mystic Forge has also been upgraded, allowing players to improve Masterworks and weapons to higher tiers as they continue progressing through the survival adventure.

With RuneScape: Dragonwilds arriving as a day-one PlayStation Plus Extra game on September 15, Jagex is positioning the open-world survival-crafting game for its biggest audience yet. The Agility overhaul is just one example of how the team is continuing to expand the game based on community feedback, and PS Plus Extra subscribers will be able to experience those improvements immediately when Dragonwilds makes its console debut.
