These have ranged from larger updates that have added an array of new features, like the March 17 update that enhanced PSSR on PS5 Pro and added new features to the Welcome Hub, to smaller updates that focus on just one area, like the July 1 update which aimed solely to improve system software performance and stability.

The July 23 PlayStation 5 software update is one of that focuses on just one specific area. The official patch notes for the latest PS5 update contains just one line of text that reads, “We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.” No exact details are given on how messages and usability have been improved, nor which specific screens have been affected by this update.

Those who keep up to date with each and every PlayStation 5 update will be all too familiar with the terms found in the most recent patch notes as they’ve popped up countless times before since the console’s launch in 2020. For example, improving messages and usability was also a primary focus of the April 23 PS5 update, the aforementioned March 17 update, and the January 28 update.
PlayStation Fans Aren’t Backing Down
As usual, this system software update was announced via the official PlayStation Support US Twitter account. But while these posts usually bring in just 200 or so comments from fans, this latest social media post has accrued over 2,500 replies. As is the case with the vast majority of recent PlayStation-related social media posts, the replies section is filled with people still expressing their disappointment with Sony’s recent announcement that it’s going to be ending physical disc production in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles.
Naturally, this announcement upset many PlayStation fans, particularly those who collect physical media or frequently trade-in games after they’ve completed them. In the replies to this most recent July 23 PlayStation Support post, some shared memes protesting the disc discontinuation announcement, some mocked the post’s use of an image featuring a PS5 with a disc drive, and some encouraged others to boycott PlayStation altogether. While the vast majority of comments lean into this same sentiment, there are a handful of replies made by those who don’t necessarily agree with the recent fan outcry. One commenter says they’ve tried to remain “neutral” following the news but that they find it “hilarious” that fans are expressing their disappointment in the replies of a post detailing a PS5 system software update.
