The PlayStation 5 has some big new co-op games set to release throughout the month of September. Co-op games have been a big part of the PlayStation 5’s library since the console first launched. The first-party launch games included Sackboy’s Big Adventure, a 4-player co-op platformer, as well as Demon’s Souls, which is primarily a single-player experience, but leaves the door open for players to summon others for help.
Other co-op games available for the PS5 at launch include titles like Borderlands 3 and Godfall, and more have been released for the console since then. All kinds of brand-new co-op games release for the PS5 every year, with some months busier than others. This month, PS5 gamers have four big new co-op games to look forward to, spread evenly throughout.
List of New PS5 Co-Op Games Releasing in September 2026

- Valheim – September 9
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds – September 15
- Dune: Awakening – September 22
- Minecraft Dungeons 2- September 29
First up is the long-awaited Valheim 1.0 release, set to launch on September 9. About a week later on September 15, RuneScape: Dragonwilds will release for PS5. Dune: Awakening hits the platform exactly a week after that on September 22, with Minecraft Dungeons 2 rounding out the new co-op PS5 games when it launches on September 29.
For those unfamiliar with the games, Valheim is a co-op survival game where players can team up with friends to build settlements, explore a giant open world, and fight dangerous monsters. Valheim is already playable on PS5 in early access, but the 1.0 release represents a major upgrade for the game. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will scratch a similar itch, but whereas Valheim uses a grittier aesthetic that calls to mind retro PS1 games, RuneScape: Dragonwilds uses a more vibrant color palette and graphics that better meet modern standards. RuneScape: Dragonwilds applies survival game mechanics to a beautiful fantasy world, and the fact that it will be playable for free through PS Plus Extra may make it especially interesting to PS5 gamers looking for new co-op games to play this month.
Dune: Awakening is yet another survival game, but this one is a sci-fi take based on the Dune franchise, as one might have guessed. Dune: Awakening has been well-received on PC since it was first released last year, and it will be interesting to see how it translates to consoles when it hits PS5 on September 22.
Survival games are big among co-op gamers, but those looking for something a little different will want to keep an eye on Minecraft Dungeons 2. Minecraft Dungeons 2 is an action-RPG inspired by Diablo, but set in the silly world of Minecraft. The first Minecraft Dungeons was relatively well-received, and the sequel is set to make a variety of notable quality-of-life improvements that should make it even better, if everything goes as planned. In any case, PS5 gamers should have no shortage of games to play in September 2026.
