PS5 Now Has the Perfect Batman: Arkham Replacement

PS5 Now Has the Perfect Batman: Arkham Replacement

PlayStation 5 gamers that are craving a new game reminiscent of the Batman: Arkham series now have something to play that just might help fill the void. The classic Batman: Arkham games are playable on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility as well as the PlayStation Plus service.

Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City both received PS4 remasters that are readily available to play on PS5. Batman: Arkham Knight was a PS4 game to begin with, so of course it’s playable on the PS5, too. Those with an adapter and PS4-era PlayStation VR headset handy can even play Batman: Arkham VR on PS5. Arkham Origins was never released on PS4, but it is also playable on PS5 for those that have a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. In fact, having PS Plus Premium gives PS5 gamers the chance to play Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and the original LEGO Batman trilogy.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Has Serious Arkham Vibes

The older LEGO Batman games are plenty of fun, but they are basically LEGO games with a Batman skin. The newly-released LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is more of a Batman game with a LEGO skin. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features a revamped combat system that mimics the battles seen in the Batman: Arkham games, and the way it tells its story is much more Arkham-coded than the older LEGO Batman games, treating the lore with respect to tell an original yet familiar Batman story (while still retaining LEGO’s signature humor).

Like the Batman: Arkham games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight pays a great deal of respect to past Batman stories. It incorporates elements from various areas of Batman’s legacy to tell its story, with a tutorial mission that has Bruce training with Ra’s al Ghul ala Batman Begins, and a version of The Penguin that is clearly inspired by Danny DeVito’s portrayal from Batman Returns. In many ways, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a love letter to the Batman franchise as a whole, and that’s exactly what the Arkham games felt like, too. If you are a Batman fan that wasn’t able to get into the other LEGO Batman games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is definitely worth a shot.

What About a New Batman: Arkham Game?

Batman in Batman Arkham City (PS3)

Still, there will no doubt be others that turn their nose up at LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and want a grittier experience like what the Batman: Arkham games bring to the table. Unfortunately, no new Batman: Arkham game has been announced in an official capacity, but it’s been leaked. All we know for sure is that Rocksteady is actively developing a new single-player Batman: Arkham game in the wake of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s failure, and that the project is apparently getting some financial backing from PlayStation. It’s possible that the new Batman: Arkham game will be a timed-PlayStation exclusive because of this, but fans should wait for official details before getting too worked up about it.

It’s hard to say when the new Batman: Arkham game will be revealed, but in the meantime, fans can check out LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. LEGO Batman‘s reviews are great and the clear influence it’s taken from Batman: Arkham should make it a solid way for Batman fans to pass the time while they wait for more information on the next Batman game.
