PS5 Releases New System Update for February 2026

PS5 Releases New System Update for February 2026

PlayStation 5 owners once again have a new system software update to download, as Sony begins rolling out version 26.01-12.70.00 to users worldwide. The company says the February 12 PlayStation 5 update will roll out to users in a phased release, so don’t panic if you haven’t received the option to download and install the latest software version just yet. Those who haven’t received the update just yet also shouldn’t fret, as there’s not much to miss out on.

Before today’s firmware update went live, the most recent PlayStation 5 system update was back in January, which brought some new features for users to check out. Update 26.01-12.60.00 gave users the ability to jump directly from the Friends Activity widget in their Welcome Hub to the games their friends are playing. It also added a new setting that allows users to turn on read receipts to show other players when they have read their messages. Unfortunately, today’s update isn’t as exciting, as there are no new features for players to check out as part of the February 12 PS5 update.

New Local Co-Op PS5 Game is Getting Great Reviews, and It’s Releasing Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

The PlayStation 5 is about to get a new local co-op game that’s getting a very positive critical reception, and it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day.

PS5 Gets New Update for February 2026

A new system software update for the PlayStation 5 (both the base and Pro models) is available now as part of a phased release. Version 26.01-12.70.00 began rolling out on February 12, but those who haven’t received the patch just yet shouldn’t panic, as Sony says it is rolling out the update to users gradually. According to the official patch notes, which can be found further down this article, the February 12 PS5 update simply improves system software performance and stability. Unfortunately, that means there are no new features for gamers to check out the next time they boot up their PlayStation 5.

While there’s nothing to write home about in the latest PS5 update, Sony likely has more plans for the console in the works, as its life cycle is looking to be longer than expected. While most console generations usually last for 8 years, reports suggest that the PS6 could be delayed. Late last month, an analyst predicted that the console could arrive “later than expected,” sparking speculation that the next-generation console might not release until 2029. This comes after Sony’s lead console architect, Mark Cerny, said that the PlayStation 6 will release in a few years.

It’s possible that some big PS5-related news could arrive later today, as Sony is set to host the highly anticipated State of Play event for February 2026. The event will kick off at 2 PM PT, but fans shouldn’t expect to see the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine appear during the hour-long showcase, as developer Insomniac Games says more will be shown in the Spring. However, those looking forward to Bungie’s new extraction shooter Marathon will want to tune into today’s State of Play, as the developer has confirmed its presence at the event.

Also expected at the event is the latest batch of PS Plus games, which were leaked online earlier this week. According to trusted insider Billbil-kun, who has been leaking new PS Plus additions for many years now, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be joining the service’s Extra and Premium tiers, along with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and Neva. PlayStation has yet to make the news official, but it’s highly likely that an announcement is made during the February 12 State of Play.
