Rayman's 30th Anniversary Edition Is Just The "First Step" In Franchise's Comeback, Ubisoft Says

Ubisoft recently announced a 30th anniversary edition of the 1995 original Rayman, but that might not be the only project the company has on tap for the iconic franchise.

Speaking to Variety, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the 30th Anniversary Edition of the game is “the first step in the brand’s comeback.”

Guillemot did not have any news to share in the interview about what’s next for Rayman, but the executive said Rayman has “unique charm and enduring appeal,” and more is in store.

“As for what’s next for Rayman, we’re always exploring how our iconic franchises can evolve and reinvent themselves for all generations of players. We can’t share details today, but we’re looking forward to talking more about Rayman soon,” he said.

Released on February 13, the Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition includes five different versions of the original Rayman game across PlayStation, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Atari Jaguar, and even MS-DOS. Alongside the content included in these versions when they launched, it also features 120 more levels, a playable SNES prototype, and a “faithfully reimagined” soundtrack.

The last mainline Rayman game, Rayman Legends, was released in 2013, so it’s been quite a while since fans got a brand-new entry in the franchise.

In 2024, it was reported that Ubisoft was working on a new Rayman game, with series creator Michel Ancel returning as a consultant. In 2020, he was investigated by Ubisoft for allegations of creating a hostile work environment. This came shortly after Ancel resigned from the company. He also outright denied the allegations at the time.

The new Variety interview with Guillemot was filled with news, including the executive attempting to justify and defend the company’s mass layoffs, teasing new IPs, and responding to accusations of nepotism. Guillemot also confirmed in the interview that more Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed games are coming.
