A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has highlighted the deadly consequences of public peeing after showing off the unexpected flammability of urine in Rockstar’s hit open-world cowboy game. The viral clip demonstrates the vastness of Red Dead Redemption 2 and some of the tidbits players are discovering and rediscovering years after release.
As one of the largest and most immersive open-world games around, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to wow its players more than six years after its original release in 2018. Telling the story of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang at the end of America’s wild west era, developer Rockstar put an almost excessive amount of detail into the game’s simulation-like aspects, modeling interactions that no reasonable player could be expected to try out.

Red Dead Redemption 3 Should Turn a Heavily Memed RDR2 Moment Into a Feature
Red Dead Redemption 2 incorporates one theme in a memorable way, and the third game should go all in on the idea, making it a big new mechanic.
Oftentimes it’s that very expectation of “reasonable” player behavior that reveals unexpected interactions, as when players push against the boundaries of the game’s simulation, they discover funny incidents. These range from funny bugs like glitched corpses witnessing the crimes of Arthur Morgan from beyond the grave to customized, self-imposed “hardcore” rule sets that deliberately eschew many of the game’s convenience features to make for a more challenging time in the old west. Red Dead Redemption 2 player cvvitor shared a pair of clips with the game’s Reddit community that demonstrate the unusually volatile nature of the urine expelled by NPCs when they pee in public.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Sets NPC Urine Alight in New Clip
Their clips show a rather common sight seen in the game’s various towns: a local or traveler relieving themselves against a wall outside a saloon. Cvvitor turns their pistol upon the small puddle of pee pooling near the NPC’s legs and shoots it, only to find that the stream lights up like the fire that consumed the home of Sadie Adler in the prologue mission. The flame climbs up the NPC’s foot, causing them to flail haplessly and eventually die.
Commenters on cvvitor’s post were amused by the unexpected ignition, joking that Rockstar must either hate public urination enough to punish NPCs with “hellfire,” or that the level of alcohol consumption in the game must be so high as to render their urine fully flammable. Some more sober-minded observers suggested that Rockstar had mistakenly programmed NPC urination using the same interactions that governed pouring gasoline or other truly flammable fluids out of jars or bottles, a mechanic used in some of the best Red Dead Redemption 2 missions. It’s just that a “reasonable” player wouldn’t be expected to shoot at a complete stranger’s pee puddle, making it easy to forget that the pee is being treated the same as oil. Whether a bug or oversight, the discovery amused players enough that many commented with calls for Rockstar not to fix it, preserving the funny interaction for others to find in the future.
