While you’re exploring the new DLC zones of the Forgotten Kingdom in Remnant 2, there are a couple of NPCs you’ll end up coming across. First is ‘Walt’, otherwise known as Rothinderahenwalt who is a a bit of a loner Pan who has come to the Forgotten Kingdom to find out what happened here. Next is Lydusa, the god or spirit who is responsible for the death of this ancient civilization.
Remnant 2: Polygun Long Gun Unlock Guide
The Polygun Long Gun is one of Remnant 2’s most deeply hidden secrets. So, let’s go over, in-depth, how you’re meant to obtain it.
However, a lot of people have missed this next NPC entirely. Private Jack Driver is a soldier from Earth who was originally in the squad that Andrew Ford was the leader of. He’s been stuck here for a hundred years, aging a bit each time he dies and respawns. Jack Driver seems like a good guy from the brief amount he reveals about himself when talking to you, so is there any way to save him from the dangerous jungles of Yaesha in Remnant 2?
What To Do
Can You Save Jack Driver?
Private Jack Driver is originally found in the Luminous Vale, close to the crying Lydusa statue that you eventually reactivate and use to obtain the Cherished Fracture. Right around this area, you should see two stone buildings with tree roots (probably infected by Root as well) spiraling up them. Use these tree roots as walkways and jump to the next stone building and then across again into a cave opening. In here you should encounter Jack Driver, a bit stunned by your appearance, but otherwise doing alright.
You can talk to him a lot here and let him know about the current state of the world (whether you lie to him or tell the truth, it makes no difference). And, when you attempt to end the conversation, Jack Driver will ask for a favor, which is of course getting him out of here. Your only options are to say yes in a nice way or not, and Jack Driver tells you to come back for him after you take care of whatever you need to do here. But, once you beat Lydusa (or give her the Cherished Fracture in the Goddess’s Rest) and return to take Jack home, you’ll find him dead on the ground in his cave.
Sadly, as of yet, no one has found a way to save Jack Driver. Unless some big secret is discovered, it seems like his story always ends with his death at the hands of the Stonewing Lurker. This is even sadder after you read his journal sitting on the ground near his body (though be ready, it does have 17 pages to read). We get that this is a post-apocalyptic world and things are tough, but it would’ve been nice to be able to bring a new NPC back to the hub area and have the DLC add a permanent addition to each player’s hub world.
Quest Rewards
Items You Can Get From This Entire Affair
Now, putting aside Jack’s tragic death, what exactly can players get from this whole quest line? Well, when you tell him you’ll take him home Jack will give you the Rally Band Ring, when you kill the Stonewing Lurker Abberation you’ll get the Far-Sighted Mutator, and when you reach Jack Driver’s dead body in the cave you’ll find the Worn Dog Tags Amulet next to it. So, to summarize:
Name |
Type |
Effect |
---|---|---|
Rally Band |
Ring |
Melee Strikes convert Grey Health into regular Health. Each Melee Strike converts up to 10 percent of Max Health. |
Far-Sighted |
Mutator (Ranged) |
Increases the Ranged Damage of this weapon by 1.25 (2.5 at Level 10) percent for every 2.5 meters from the shooter to the target. At Level 10 it also increases this weapon’s ideal range, falloff range, and max range by 5 meters. |
Worn Dog Tags |
Amulet |
Increases Fire Rate and Reload Speed by 15 percent and decreases Weapon Charge Time by 15 percent. |
This is all to say that, while it’s sad, it’s absolutely worth finding Private Jack Driver and completing his quest line. Plus, for any Handler Archetype players, you’ll get an extra-special interaction when Mr. Driver sees your dog companion for the first time.
