Resident Evil Executive Producer Addresses the Franchise’s 30th Anniversary

Resident Evil is now officially 30 years old, and executive producer Jun Takeuchi is celebrating by sharing a heartfelt message to the fans that made this milestone possible in the first place. The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most notable horror series in gaming, and the fact that it has been going strong for three decades is definitely a feat worth celebrating.

It’s only three months into 2026, but the year has already proven to be a big one for the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil Requiem was released at the end of February, and it quickly set a series sales record. So far, Resident Evil Requiem‘s sales are estimated to be around 6 million copies, and that number is only going to increase as the year continues. Such strong numbers are a great way to ring in the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and Capcom seems excited about the series’ future.

The 18 Scariest Resident Evil Games, Ranked

Capcom’s Resident Evil is the definitive horror franchise, but the games are not equally scary. RE7, Village, RE4, and Requiem are top contenders.

Resident Evil’s Executive Producer Thanks All the Fans Who Have Enjoyed the Series Over the Years

Executive producer Jun Takeuchi gave his message via Twitter through the Capcom Europe account. Resident Evil‘s 30th anniversary was officially on March 22, and it was clear that Takeuchi was filled with gratitude over hitting such a big goal. His message goes over the success of Resident Evil Requiem, mentioning how the game is a big full-circle moment for not only Leon Kennedy, but the series as a whole. Takeuchi’s words celebrated how the series brought everything back to Raccoon City for the first time in 28 years and combined its staple horror and action gameplay into one experience. He also made sure to mention Resident Evil’s Requiem‘s wildly impressive sales numbers.

Jun Takeuchi Touches on Resident Evil’s Future

After Resident Evil Requiem‘s ending, a lot of players have been left wondering what the series has in store next. Takeuchi didn’t disclose any information about Resident Evil‘s future plans, but he reassured fans that the team behind the franchise is planning on bringing more games to players down the road.

Takeuchi was careful to be vague regarding future Resident Evil games, but fans at least recently got confirmation about one future project that’s on the way. Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi revealed earlier this month that a Resident Evil Requiem DLC is officially in the works. The expansion doesn’t have a release date set in stone yet, but it will hopefully tie up many of the loose ends that were left at the end of Requiem. There’s no way to know for sure, but the game’s finale felt like it was teasing either a DLC story or the 10th mainline game. Fans have been wanting characters like Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine to return, so there is already growing hope that one or both will make an appearance next.

“Our team will continue to work hard to bring all of you even more wonderful experiences in the future – and it would be an honor if you continued along with us on that journey.”

Right now, the future of Resident Evil is incredibly mysterious. The one thing that’s known for certain, though, is that 30 years is a long time for a game franchise to thrive. There aren’t many games that get to experience this kind of longevity. From mainline entries to spin-offs, Capcom has continued to dive into Resident Evil‘s fascinating world filled with terrifying bioweapon experiments and shady corporations. There have also been plenty of leaks and rumors about future games. Recent leaks have claimed that Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are on the way, but such bold claims should be met with skepticism. Capcom’s plans will become clear as time passes. Until then, Resident Evil fans can celebrate the horror franchise’s impressive run by either checking out Resident Evil Requiem‘s horrifying story or diving into one of their favorite series entries again.
