Roy Lee, a producer behind the recent live-action Resident Evil movie, has just confirmed that they’re working on a brand-new Silent Hill project. It’s unclear what form this Silent Hill project will take, but given Roy Lee’s expertise in adapting video games, it seems the franchise is in safe hands.
The founder of Vertigo Entertainment, Roy Lee has been a producer in Hollywood since the early 2000s. While the vast majority of Lee’s producing credits have come from horror projects like The Strangers, Blair Witch, Shutter, and It, Lee has also worked in plenty of other genres, including animated projects like The Lego Batman Movie, and crime thrillers like The Departed. Roy Lee earned his most recent producing credit with the worldwide release of Resident Evil earlier this month, a Zach Cregger-directed live-action adaptation that’s earned a very positive critical reception.
Resident Evil Movie Producer Is Working on a New Silent Hill Project
Shortly following Resident Evil‘s release earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal published a feature dedicated to Roy Lee, who they describe as “the man behind the brands.” This extensive feature details much of Lee’s past experience and even gives readers a tease of what Lee currently has in the pipeline. Roy Lee’s history with video game adaptations is brought up, and it’s mentioned that Lee has another 20 video game-based projects currently in the works.

Lee is currently set to produce Amazon’s live-action God of War series, the live-action Battlefield movie starring Michael B. Jordan, and the sequel to last year’s A Minecraft Movie. The remaining 17 video game adaptations aren’t detailed specifically, but Lee does let slip that he’s working on some kind of Silent Hill project. No Silent Hill adaptation has been officially announced just yet, and it’s unclear if this Lee-produced project will be a movie, TV show, or something else entirely.
The Silent Hill franchise has had a fairly mixed history in the world of silver screen adaptations. Released in 2006, Silent Hill was a live-action adaptation of the first game in Konami’s horror franchise, directed by Christophe Gans. This first movie was deemed something of a commercial and critical failure, but it has gained a cult following in recent years. Silent Hill received a sequel in 2012 titled Silent Hill: Revelation, which was widely regarded to be worse than its predecessor in almost every way. The franchise made a comeback this year with Return to Silent Hill, which is currently sitting at a 34 on Metacritic.
While the Silent Hill franchise has never had success when it comes to Hollywood blockbusters, it’s an IP that still feels ripe for screen adaptations. That’s especially true now, when Konami is right in the middle of a major franchise revival of Silent Hill, with the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill Townfall all releasing in the span of two years.
