Resident Evil Requiem Confirms DLC Now In Development

Capcom has now confirmed that a DLC story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem is officially in development. Director Koshi Nakanishi published a short video statement today, March 10, thanking Resident Evil Requiem fans for all of their support on the newest entry in the series, before going on to announce that the team is working on bringing more content to the game. Alongside DLC, Capcom will also be adding a highly requested photo mode and mini-game to Resident Evil Requiem in the coming months.

Rumors of a DLC expansion for Resident Evil Requiem have been circulating on social media before the game was even released, with trusted insiders claiming that Capcom will build on the story set out in Requiem by releasing a new story expansion focused on Alyssa Ashcroft, the mother of Grace Ashcroft, one of the game’s two main protagonists. These rumors did, however, come before the game was released, so it’s always possible that the team has pivoted its plans since. However, it seemed inevitable that Capcom would release a DLC for Requiem at some point post-launch, given that the two previous mainline entries in the series, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, also received story expansions after they were released.

A legendary Resident Evil director returns to the spotlight with a fresh independent studio and an ambitious project that aims for high-end quality.

Resident Evil Requiem DLC Confirmed

After months of rumors, Capcom has now confirmed that DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is officially in development. In a short video posted to the official Resident Evil Twitter account, director Koshi Nakanishi thanked fans for their support and overwhelmingly positive response to the latest entry in the series. Nakanishi touched upon recent improvements made to Resident Evil Requiem via new updates, before confirming that Capcom aims to continue support with new content, starting with the much-awaited photo mode and a “surprise” in May, which will be a new mini-game. The director then ended by confirming that Capcom intends to add more story content to Requiem, with DLC now in development.

Nakanishi jokingly teased fans over theories about who Leon is married to in Resident Evil Requiem, before then revealing the planned story expansion. “In this story, we will delve deeper into the world of Requiem,” the director said. Unfortunately, it could still be quite some time before the DLC is released. While Nakanishi says Capcom is hard at work on the expansion right now, he also says that it will “take some time” and asks for fans’ patience. Based on the wording of Nakanishi’s statement, it appears as though the planned DLC is only in the early stages of development, which means players likely won’t receive any further details for quite a while.

Given the series’ history of DLC expansions, it seemed inevitable that Requiem would receive the same treatment, especially considering the huge success Capcom has had with the latest entry. Last week, the publisher revealed some updated sales figures for the franchise, which has now sold more than 183 million units in its 30 year span. This figure was helped along massively by the success of Resident Evil Requiem, which sold more than 5 million copies in just 5 days, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil release to date. The previous record was held by Resident Evil 6, which sold 4.5 million units in its first week.

Despite now being 30 years old, the Resident Evil series appears to be going stronger than ever. Capcom has been knocking it out of the park with some incredible remakes and new mainline entries over the last few years, and if rumors are to be believed, the studio has no plans to slow down just yet. Insiders have claimed that a remake of Resident Evil 1 is in the works, but it will still be a few years away. It was also claimed that the next release from the Resident Evil team will be a remake of Code Veronica, something fans have been eager to see for many years. However, it is worth noting that these plans have yet to be confirmed by Capcom itself.
