Resident Evil Requiem Datamine Reveals Cut Content and Scrapped Features

Resident Evil Requiem Datamine Reveals Cut Content and Scrapped Features

Resident Evil Requiem dataminers have uncovered a large amount of content that was cut from the final version of the game, including several features that could have had a significant impact on gameplay. Datamines offer fans a glimpse into the development process, but it’s not clear exactly why these elements were cut from Resident Evil Requiem ahead of release.

Video games always begin with ideas that developers never intend for players to see, either because they aren’t fully formed enough to keep in the final build, or because they simply don’t work as envisioned. Clearly, cut content didn’t have a negative impact in this case. Resident Evil Requiem has sold more than 7 million copies, and the game received strong critical praise upon release.

Resident Evil Requiem allows players to choose between first and third-person perspectives, and now gamers know which option is preferred.

Resident Evil Requiem’s Cut Content Detailed

On Twitter, dataminers have shared several features that were apparently cut from Resident Evil Requiem, as well as changes Capcom made ahead of launch. Resident Evil Requiem introduced the Blood Collector item, which can exclusively be used when playing as Grace. It appears the developers were also planning to have Leon use this mechanic in the game, which would have allowed players to enhance his abilities and craft certain items. However, it would also have been possible for Leon to “overdose” when using it.

Resident Evil Requiem players have been missing the merchant, an iconic character that debuted in Resident Evil 4. It appears Capcom might have had plans to add a character similar to the merchant in the latest game in the series, but plans were scrapped. The datamines show a mysterious character that appears in a weapon customization screen that was removed from Resident Evil Requiem. From the images uncovered, the design appears significantly different from the one from Resident Evil 4, but it’s unclear if the developers ever had plans to actually use it.

Several other cut elements have been uncovered, including tutorials for a murder scene investigation and motorcycle repair. There was also an option to see both Leon and Grace’s positions on the map at the same time, a “professional” difficulty level, and animations that didn’t make it into Resident Evil Requiem. The unfortunate thing about datamines is that it’s impossible to know why the developers chose to cut these elements from the game, or how far along the ideas might have been when they were removed. Unless the developers decide to provide some insight, fans will be left to speculate.

It’s possible that some of the cut elements from the game could be restored in a free update, or through future DLC. Resident Evil Requiem story DLC is in development, though a release date has not been announced. A new mode was also recently added, called “Leon Must Die Forever.” It’s clear that Capcom isn’t done with the game yet and plans to continue supporting it in the coming months. That’s good news for fans who are eager to keep spending time with the title, especially since there’s probably going to be a wait until there’s another Resident Evil remake or the next numbered games in the series.
