Resident Evil Requiem: Does Leon Die?

Resident Evil Requiem: Does Leon Die?

Resident Evil Requiem is now available to the masses, meaning the question on everyone’s mind about the fate of Leon S. Kennedy has been answered. The marketing for Resident Evil Requiem teased that Leon would be dealing with some kind of medical issue throughout the course of the game, and with the franchise favorite also much older than he was in the days of Resident Evil 2 and 4, many have been bracing themselves for his potential demise.

Unfortunately for Capcom, Resident Evil Requiem leaked online ahead of its official launch. Early physical copies wound up in the hands of people that streamed large portions of the game before its official release date could roll around, spoiling many of the surprises and story twists for unfortunate RE fans.

MASSIVE SPOILERS for Resident Evil Requiem followOthers may not care about spoilers and just want to know what happens in the game, and so those individuals can read on. Everyone else should note that the rest of this article has MASSIVE SPOILERS for Resident Evil Requiem.

Resident Evil Requiem Review: A Horror Gaming Masterpiece

By expertly blending pure horror and over-the-top action, Resident Evil Requiem becomes the ultimate Resident Evil experience.

Resident Evil Requiem has two endings. In one ending, Grace releases Elpsis and players effectively get Resident Evil Requiem‘s good ending. What follows is an ultimate showdown between Leon and Requiem villain Victor Gideon. The ending scenes also set up a potential reunion with Chris Redfield in a future Resident Evil game, and Leon winds up cured from his affliction. In this ending, which is almost certainly the canon ending for Resident Evil Requiem, Leon does not die. Effectively, this means that, in terms of the official Resident Evil canon, Leon S. Kennedy is alive well and free to return for yet another installment down the line.

In Resident Evil Requiem‘s bad ending, Grace chooses to destroy Elpis. She is able to escape afterwards, but not with Leon, who gets his head blown off by Zeno. This ending is rather abrupt and skips an entire boss fight. It’s a shocking ending for Leon S. Kennedy, but it is almost certainly not considered canon.

If you are curious about seeing both of Resident Evil Requiem‘s endings for yourself, you don’t need to worry about replaying the game from the beginning again. An option pops up that asks you point-blank if you want to see the other ending, taking you to the point right before the final decision is made.
