Resident Evil Requiem Has Just Set a New Series Record

Resident Evil Requiem Has Just Set a New Series Record

Resident Evil Requiem has set a new franchise record, earning the highest user review score on Metacritic and surpassing the benchmark that was previously held by 2005’s Resident Evil 4. The latest entry in Capcom’s iconic horror series, Resident Evil Requiem, launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 27, and is already receiving rave reviews from both players and critics, largely due to its perfect blend of horror and action.

When it comes to the Resident Evil series, Capcom has been on a tremendous run in recent years. The developer returned the franchise to its roots with the launch of Resident Evil 7 in 2017, focusing more on survival horror, exploration, and puzzle-solving. In the years after, Capcom delivered numerous critically acclaimed remakes, including Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. In between these remakes, the studio also shipped a brand-new installment in 2021, Resident Evil Village. Now the studio has returned with Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline installment in the series, which perfectly blends survival horror and action thanks to the game’s two playable protagonists, Leon and Grace.

Resident Evil Requiem’s Best Playable Character – Leon Or Grace?

Resident Evil Requiem introduces Grace Ashcroft and brings back Leon. Both characters have unique campaigns, but which one is the best?

While some may say that switching between Grace’s horrifying survival sequences and Leon’s action-packed antics in Resident Evil Requiem can be somewhat jarring, it’s clear that the majority are absolutely loving the most recent entry in the series. As spotted by The Gamer, Resident Evil Requiem is now the highest-rated game in the franchise when it comes to user review scores. Before the release of Requiem, the original Resident Evil 4 held the top spot with a score of 9.1, closely followed by Resident Evil 4‘s 2023 remake and 2002’s remake of the original Resident Evil, both of which have a user review score of 8.9. Now, however, Requiem has broken the record with a score of 9.5 with over 3,000 reviews.

What’s also impressive about this record is that Resident Evil Requiem is now tied with the award-winning Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the best user-reviewed game on Metacritic. Of course, it is important to take into account that Resident Evil Requiem is only a few days old at the time of writing this article, which means its score could drop as more reviews come in. Clair Obscur‘s user score is made all the more impressive when you take into account that it has over 24,500 user reviews on Metacritic, whereas Requiem currently has just over 3,000. But, with that being said, fans do appear to be loving the latest Resident Evil game, as its Steam rating is currently “overwhelmingly positive” with over 18,000 reviews.

Given the months of hype and rave reviews from critics, it’s no surprise that Resident Evil Requiem has been blowing up on Steam over its launch weekend. The latest entry in the series once again set a new record for the franchise, as it peaked at more than 344,000 concurrent players on the platform on February 28. For a single-player game, this is massively impressive and even blows 2023’s Resident Evil 4 out of the water, which previously held the record with just over 168,000 concurrent players.

Just two days before the launch of Requiem, major retailers across the US, including Amazon, GameStop, Wal-Mart, and many more, sold out of physical copies of the game. Even days after its release, stock still appears to be limited across these retailers, proving that the hype for Resident Evil is still going strong, 30 years after it all began.
