Resident Evil Requiem is Already Selling Out Everywhere

Resident Evil Requiem is Already Selling Out Everywhere

Resident Evil Requiem appears to be sold out at Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Amazon. While the digital edition of Resident Evil Requiem can still be purchased directly from platform storefronts, pre-orders for physical copies of Requiem seem to have completely sold out at these retailers.

Technically the 31st entry in the 30-year-long survival horror franchise, Resident Evil Requiem was first unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025. The long-awaited sequel immediately gained traction with fans by teasing the return of Raccoon City, the primary setting of Resident Evil 2 and 3. The hype surrounding Resident Evil Requiem remained steady following its first look at gameplay, but reached all-new heights with the confirmation that fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy would be coming back as a co-protagonist. There are some incredibly lofty expectations for Resident Evil Requiem, and it feels fair to say that hype has now reached a fever pitch.

Resident Evil Requiem Is Currently Sold Out at Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Amazon

On February 25, just two days before Resident Evil Requiem‘s US launch, well-known industry insider Shinobi602 shared on X and Bluesky that physical editions of Resident Evil Requiem seem to have sold out at Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Amazon. Following the links provided by Shinobi should take fans directly to each respective retailer, where they’ll be able to see for themselves that every physical edition of RE Requiem is labeled as “Out of Stock,” and can no longer be purchased. This is true for both the Standard and Deluxe Editions of Resident Evil Requiem on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Even the Switch 2-exclusive Resident Evil Generation Pack that combines Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem into one package is currently unavailable.

While not entirely impossible, it’s unlikely that these retailers will receive new stock ahead of Resident Evil Requiem‘s February 27, 2026 release date. For those still looking to secure a physical copy of RE Requiem, their best bet will likely be trying independently-owned game stores in their local area. Alternatively, if fans don’t have their heart set on a physical edition of the game, they shouldn’t have a problem purchasing the digital edition of Resident Evil Requiem on Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, or the Nintendo eShop.

Why Is Resident Evil Requiem Sold Out?

While there may not be a direct correlation, this news does come just a few hours after the review embargo for Resident Evil Requiem was lifted. Resident Evil Requiem is currently sitting at a “Mighty” score on OpenCritic, holding a Top Critic Average of 89 and a critic recommendation rating of 95%. These scores are based on a total of 101 critic reviews that all went live on February 25 at 7am PT / 10am ET. Though more reviews could trickle in over the next few days and weeks, it’s unlikely to impact Resident Evil Requiem‘s OpenCritic score too much.

It may have just been a case of coincidental timing, but it’s certainly possible that some fans who were previously on the fence decided to finally take the plunge and purchase their copy of Resident Evil Requiem following this onslaught of mostly positive reviews. If Resident Evil Requiem can maintain this sales momentum after launch, then it could be in with a chance of being the franchise’s best-selling entry, though that would require beating out Resident Evil 2‘s lofty 15.4 million copies sold.
