Resident Evil Requiem Leak Shows Totally Different Gameplay

Early Resident Evil Requiem footage is stunning players, with its initial gameplay during development being very different than what players got in the end. With Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy as the main protagonists, Resident Evil Requiem gives fans two distinct experiences that perfectly match the characters’ fighting styles and personalities.

Released in late February, Resident Evil Requiem has already seen impressive worldwide sales figures. One feature that many players appreciate is the difference in gameplay between each character’s sections. As an FBI analyst, Grace isn’t an experienced fighter, so it’s recommended to play her in first-person to really feel her fear in every situation. Meanwhile, it’s recommended to play Leon in third-person, as he’s a seasoned vet who’s fought legions of infected zombies in the past. Plus, players get a front-row seat to the rapid gun and melee action, which feels like an upgraded version of Leon’s move set in Resident Evil 4.

Early Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Had a Different Yet Familiar Feature

With Resident Evil Requiem‘s story and gameplay receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, it can be hard to imagine how it would work with different mechanics. Recently, an interview clip featuring Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi was shared by Twitter user REBiohazardNews, in which he talked about experimenting with various types of gameplay, such as open-world mechanics, for the new Resident Evil game. This also included a short clip of Grace and Leon in a co-op battle, shooting away at infected zombies, during the early stages of development. It briefly showed a different dynamic between the two characters since they barely worked together in Requiem‘s main missions.

If Capcom decided to push through with co-op for Resident Evil Requiem, it would be a similar experience to Resident Evil 5 with Chris Redfield and Sheva’s campaign. Several fans online were relieved, noting that they weren’t fans of the co-op mechanic in previous Resident Evil games. A few also suggested that Capcom should remake Resident Evil Outbreak if it’s looking to bring back online co-op. Although the developer ended up not using the feature for Resident Evil Requiem, it might still pop up in a future DLC, remake, or mainline game.

Conversely, a Resident Evil Requiem DLC could still be in the works to continue the main story and potentially give players the chance to control either Grace or Leon in a new co-op mission. It could be a good way to further establish their working relationship and show Grace’s improved skills after the events of Resident Evil Requiem, especially if Capcom decides to bring her back in future games. Since Grace is Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter, this would also be a great opportunity to bring back some Resident Evil Outbreak characters and show what happened to them prior to Requiem. Previous Resident Evil games have done a good job of expanding the universe through DLCs, so Grace and Leon might be back on people’s screens soon.

After Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom reportedly has a number of Resident Evil remakes in the pipeline, including Code: Veronica and Zero. It was recently rumored that a remake of the first Resident Evil game is already in production, 30 years after its initial release. Seeing as how the recent remakes and mainline titles have mostly been received positively, the expectations for the franchise’s future releases are high. At the same time, Capcom will have enough titles to keep fans busy while waiting for Resident Evil 10 to come out, which will most likely take a few more years to complete.
