Resident Evil Requiem Sets Major Franchise Sales Record

Resident Evil Requiem Sets Major Franchise Sales Record

Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem continues to be a runaway success for the company as it confirms the game has smashed a franchise record after selling 6 million copies. After launching at the end of February 2026, Resident Evil Requiem clearly resonated with critics and players as the game saw impressive review scores and engagement from players, especially on platforms like Steam. It also helped that Resident Evil Requiem was also available on a wider selection of platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2.

It was evident pretty early on that Resident Evil Requiem would likely be a major success for Capcom. The game’s debut left fans excited for the connection between Grace Ashcroft and her mother, Alyssa, who was last seen in 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak. Excitment levels spiked even more after Capcom revealed that Leon S. Kennedy would also be in the game as a dual protagonist, giving fans a bit of action and horror as they navigated the campaign. At launch, Resident Evil Requiem exploded on Steam, passing 314,000 at launch and breaking that Capcom record as well. In fact, it only took 5 days for the game to sell 5 million copies, an impressive feat that has only continued to grow weeks later.

Resident Evil Requiem Just Got Another New Update for March 2026

Capcom releases another March 2026 update for Resident Evil Requiem shortly after the game’s strong launch and impressive early sales.

Resident Evil Requiem Breaks Franchise Sales Record

The Resident Evil franchise is no stranger to breaking sales records for Capcom and as it stands, Requiem is now joining that celebration. In a press release from Capcom’s president and COO, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the company revealed that Resident Evil Requiem surpassed 6 million copies sold in just 17 days. What’s more impressive is that Requiem is the fastest Resident Evil game to reach that milestone.

In addition, Capcom continued by mentioning the Resident Evil franchise is approaching its 30th anniversary, a major milestone for the popular horror franchise. Part of the press release also mentioned post-launch content, a topic Capcom had previously indicated that DLC is in development for Resident Evil Requiem. While Tsujimoto didn’t provide any additional details on what’s coming specifically, the press release hinted that Capcom “plans to implement several measures” including ongoing support and additional gamer content to allow players to “enjoy the title longer.”

DLC for a Resident Evil game is hardly a surprise, as the recent games have a long history of adding new content after the main game has launched. In fact, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village both received post-launch updates, content, and story expansions after release, so fans should expect something similar most likely. Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi recently thanked fans for their support and the positive response to the game while also confirming that new story content is on the way. The director also teased a “surprise” in May, while also revealing a Photo Mode would be coming in a future patch. Nakanish also warned that the story DLC will take some time, so fans likely won’t be hearing much about it for some time.

The press release delved a bit further into Resident Evil‘s big 30th anniversary milestone, teasing Capcom’s plans to celebrate the massive milestone on March 22, 2026. While there’s still plenty fans don’t know, Capcom confirmed that it is readying “various plans” in an effort to delight longtime fans. The company is planning orchestral concerts across Japan, the US, and Europe, while teasing a 2026 collaboration between Universal Studios Japan and Resident Evil Requiem. Unfortunately, no other details were provided, though it’s highly likely that Capcom will have additional plans that will be revealed closer to launch. Fans will likely want to keep an eye on March 22, 2026, as well, which marks the official 30th anniversary of the franchise.
