Resident Evil Village: Can You Kill the Werewolf?

Resident Evil Village: Can You Kill the Werewolf?

Pretty much right when Capcom revealed Resident Evil Village to the public, it confirmed that the game would have some new enemy types for franchise fans to contend with. Gone were the zombies from the original Resident Evil games or the lumbering black goo monsters from Resident Evil 7, and in their place were a variety of loosely-mythical creatures, like mutant werewolves and vampires. There are a variety of different werewolves that players encounter in Resident Evil Village, but one in particular stands out from the pack.

At a certain point in Resident Evil Village‘s story, players will encounter an especially large and powerful creature that looks more like a classic werewolf from films. This beast is known as Varcolac Alfa, and it is incredibly dangerous. The game implies that players should run from the Varcolac Alfa, and that is certainly an option if players want to get away from the monster without using up all their ammo.

However, some Resident Evil Village players may be curious about whether or not they can kill the beast instead. For those curious, yes, it is possible to kill the Varcolac Alfa werewolf in Resident Evil Village, and here is how to do it.

10 Most Fun Resident Evil Games, Ranked

Resident Evil is a franchise known for its horror, but it can also be fun, as shown with several exciting titles throughout series history.

Please note that this article will have some MINOR SPOILERS for Resident Evil Village.

Updated February 21, 2026 by Marc Santos: The giant werewolves found in different parts of the village can prove to be a nuisance, and if you’d rather not deal with them while exploring the rest of the game, you’ll be glad to know that you can get rid of the Varcolacs permanently. We’ve updated this guide to include some more info on what you can use to take these monsters out.

Finding and Killing the Varcolac Alfa

Shortly after you claw your way out of House Beneviento, you’ll encounter a Varcolac Alfa when you open the door leading to Moreau’s slice of the village (aka the Reservoir.) The big bad werewolf will show you who’s boss around these parts, forcing you into hiding inside a house. You can kill the Varcolac Alfa in this part of the game, but you’ll need a lot of ammo and, preferably, a stronger weapon.

The good thing about the eastern part of the village is that you can get a grenade launcher by searching the Water Wheel. It’s marked on your map; grab the grenade launcher there, and use it to blast the werewolf to bits. You can buy more Explosive Rounds plus the crafting recipe for them from The Duke.

The Varcolac Alfa can take some serious punishment. On Standard difficulty, you’ll need to hit it with about four HE grenades, five shots from a level 1 W870 Tac Shotgun, and some pistol shots. Thankfully, you can use any of the nearby houses as cover for when the Varcolac Alfa is on your tail. When it croaks, it’ll turn to a pile of crystals and drop a Crystal Beast item, which you can sell for a large sum of Liras.

We strongly recommend using upgraded weapons, the Grenade Launcher, and some Mines when fighting werewolves.

When the Varcolac Alfa werewolf is dead, players will unlock the Resident Evil Village trophy called “Leader of the Pack.”
