In a rare move for the company, Rockstar Games recently reacted to a post by professional soccer player Lamine Yamal mentioning the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. The long-awaited release of GTA 6 is scheduled to finally arrive in November 2026.
The debut of Grand Theft Auto 6 is positioned to be one of the biggest events in gaming history. Rockstar Games first confirmed the rumored sixth numbered entry in the franchise in 2023, quickly breaking the internet and setting records on YouTube following its announcement. Pre-orders for GTA 6 have already smashed through even more records, with Rockstar’s next big game breaking the $1 billion mark within just three days of pre-orders going live, according to some analysts. Now, with excitement building for GTA 6‘s debut, Rockstar has made a rare appearance on social media to react to a popular athlete.
Rockstar Games Acknowledges GTA 6 Post from Lamine Yamal
Rockstar Games recently acknowledged a post made on Instagram by Spanish soccer player Lamine Yamal about the game. The seemingly innocuous post includes a variety of photos of Yamal and his girlfriend, Ines Garcia, mentioning GTA 6 in the caption. The mention of the game was seemingly enough for the game’s developers to take notice, with Rockstar Games liking the Instagram post from Yamal in a rare move for the company. Yamal’s post does not clarify whether the mention was an intentional marketing move from Rockstar Games, though the company is not known to be very active on social media when it comes to GTA 6.

Lamine Yamal’s post potentially being a subtle piece of marketing would not be surprising coming from Rockstar Games. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed in early June that promotion for GTA 6 was going to ramp up during the summer, with the game opening its pre-orders and revealing more about its special editions. Rumors have also begun to surface about the first gameplay reveals for GTA 6 from Rockstar, suggesting that a detailed video about the “world and mechanics” of the game may be planned for release sometime in August.
While fans have not gotten to see an official look at Grand Theft Auto 6‘s gameplay yet, the game has been subject to numerous leaks. Gameplay information has surfaced numerous times ahead of an official trailer from Rockstar Games, including leaks suggesting that GTA 6 will feature over 700 stores for players to visit, with players able to enter a majority of the buildings in Vice City. The game is also set to follow in the footsteps of GTA 5 with multiple playable protagonists, allowing players to take control of either Jason or Lucia to explore the game’s massive world.
The excitement for GTA 6 has not come without a fair share of criticism for the highly-anticipated game. Rockstar Games officially confirmed in June that the physical version of GTA 6 will not come with a game disc, instead including a download code for the game. The move has seen significant backlash from fans upset about Rockstar moving away from physical media, coupled with Sony also confirming that it will be phasing out discs for new games released in 2028 and beyond. However, even with the controversy surrounding the physical version, GTA 6 is still poised to be a massive success and a landmark title in gaming.
