Grand Theft Auto 6 is officially described by Rockstar Games as a “single-player experience,” leading many to assume that the anticipated online mode will not be available at launch on November 19. On June 24, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games revealed more details about Grand Theft Auto 6 and its two editions: Standard and Ultimate, including their prices.

While most outlets are talking about GTA 6‘s $80 price tag, several fans have noticed specific wording in the press releases describing the game. Notably, even the PlayStation Store has added a frequently asked questions section to the game’s official page, which could be seen as disappointing news for fans of multiplayer modes. The question on the website reads, “Does Grand Theft Auto 6 feature any multiplayer features or modes?” and the official response is, “Grand Theft Auto 6 is a single-player experience.”

Rockstar Stresses That GTA 6 Is a Single-Player Game

The official press release for GTA 6‘s pre-order event describes the game as a single-player experience. This has led many fans to assume the worst, with the belief that Rockstar Games may release the new GTA Online mode sometime after the November 19 launch. While that may sound disappointing, it would not be out of character for the developer and publisher. Long-time fans will remember that the multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto 5 was released about two weeks after its initial launch in 2013.

Will GTA 6 Online Be a Paid DLC?

It is safe to say that most people would not be surprised if GTA 6 did not come with a playable multiplayer mode in November. However, some fans are wondering whether Rockstar Games will actually charge an additional fee for the online mode. Given that the company has already raised the entry bar by pricing its AAA game at $80, some are questioning whether GTA 6 Online could become a paid experience for everyone. That said, it seems unlikely that GTA 6 Online will be a paid DLC for those who purchase the base game.

When GTA Online was released in 2013, it was a free download for owners of the fifth installment. And the key point is that it has traditionally been included with the base game bundles. As a result, the most likely scenario appears to be a similar approach, with Rockstar Games potentially giving players time to complete GTA 6‘s story mode before rolling out the online component with a free title update.

Another question that remains unanswered about GTA 6 Online is whether the mode will get its own subscription service, similar to GTA+ from the previous installment. So far, none of the bonuses and rewards for pre-ordering GTA 6 editions appear to have anything to do with the online mode. Because of this, Rockstar Games may have other plans to offer multiplayer fans additional perks and rewards in the future. For now, fans will have to wait until June 25 to see whether more news about GTA 6 and its online mode will be revealed, alongside the pre-orders going live.
