Highlights
- More Xbox exclusives may soon release on other platforms, potentially changing the industry landscape.
- Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy with Xbox games is causing backlash among hardcore fans.
- Six major Xbox games could go multiplatform.
The reputable insider NateTheHate recently alleged that six Xbox exclusives, including those from major first-party franchises, will be coming to other platforms in the near future. Depending on what these games are, the release of these titles on PlayStation and/or Nintendo consoles could signify a major shift in the industry and define the future of the Xbox brand, for better or for worse.
Microsoft’s recent multiplatform push has been dominating the discourse among Xbox fans in 2024 so far. This debacle initially began when rumors circulated in January that several Xbox games would be going multiplatform soon. The claims ended up being mostly true, as Microsoft revealed during an Official Xbox Podcast episode that four Xbox games—specifically Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Grounded—would release on other consoles. The decision was met with largely negative reception from hardcore Xbox fans. Though some welcomed the idea of more people being able to play more games, many expressed concern that this new strategy might pave the way for a future with PlayStation and Nintendo as the only console manufacturers. Despite this backlash, it appears Microsoft is seemingly continuing its efforts to port more games to rival platforms.

Rumor: Microsoft May Provide an Update on its Multiplatform Strategy Soon
A new report claims that Microsoft will soon provide some clarification regarding its recent strategy of releasing games on non-Xbox consoles.
In a new episode of the NateTheHate podcast, the insider claimed around the 8:30 timestamp mark that six Xbox exclusives are currently in development for other consoles. Elaborating on this, NateTheHate stated that “Microsoft’s multiplatform push continues to evolve,” as they “have many more games intended to go multiplatform.” He then said that he is personally aware of six “significant games,” at least some of which are major Xbox exclusive franchises “under the Microsoft brand,” that will eventually release on PlayStation and/or Nintendo consoles. However, NateTheHate declined to comment on what exactly these games were, stating that he’ll share the info if he finds out when they’ll be announced or released, “whether it’s later this year or. . . sometime in 2025.”
The claim that these titles are from big Xbox IPs suggests that at least a handful of the games slated for multiplatform releases could be installments from the Halo, Gears of War, or Forza franchises, among several others. A similar statement regarding the former of the three IPs was made by The Verge’s Tom Warren, who alleged in a recent report of his that an upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved remaster was being considered for PS5.
The Release of Major Xbox Games on Other Platforms Could Shake Up The Industry
It’s hard to pin down what exactly the six titles NateTheHate referred to are, but unless his sources contradict the claims of both Warren and fellow insider Jez Corden, then the games he mentioned likely don’t include Hellblade 2, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, Age of Mythology: Retold, Starfield, Avowed, Fable, Gears 6, or South of Midnight, as these titles are reportedly not in active development for PS5. They’re either only being considered for a multiplatform release, or in the case of the last three games, they’re currently not being considered at all. Either way, regardless of what these Xbox games are, their potential release on other platforms could eventually lead to console exclusivity facing the reaper.
