Assassin’s Creed Hexe may be stripped of its supernatural, magical elements before it finally reaches players, according to information released by a leaker with a relatively reliable track record. Mixing traditional stealth-based Assassin’s Creed gameplay with a dark tone inspired by 16th century European witch trials, the upcoming game is anticipated for release in late 2027.
The upcoming game was first revealed to the world during an Ubisoft Forward showcase in September 2022, which also contained reveals for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Red, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, and Assassin’s Creed Jade, along with several games not associated with the stealth assassination series. Setting itself apart in a crowded field, Assassin’s Creed Hexe‘s creepy setting and cinematic footage of a hooded figure breaking up a public execution of a suspected witch by bonfire has offered an air of mystery that plenty of Ubisoft fans are excited to see come to fruition.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe Gets Exciting and Encouraging Update
After first being teased in 2022, a trusted industry insider provides Assassin’s Creed fans with an exciting and encouraging update on Codename Hexe.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe Might Be Losing Its Magic
But certain elements of the game may be changing dramatically during the production phase, especially after Assassin’s Creed Hexe creative director Clint Hocking walked away from Ubisoft in late February, with neither Hocking nor Ubisoft giving an official reason for the split. Much more recently, game director Benoit Richer announced he was leaving Ubisoft to join Servo Games, with Jean Guesdon now fully in charge as Assassin’s Creed‘s head of content. Under his leadership, the upcoming game may be taking a major turn in its gameplay and narrative, with prominent Assassin’s Creed leaker j0nathan stating that Guesdon is removing all the mystical and magical features from the game.
Reports from mid-2025 have already revealed leaked information regarding Assassin’s Creed Hexe‘s plot, which reportedly centers around a character named Elsa who is seeking revenge in relation to her mother’s trial and execution over suspicion of witchcraft. Other leaks about the upcoming game purported that Elsa would have access to some supernatural abilities, including the power to possess a cat, which would both let her distract guards and help her reach some otherwise inaccessible areas. The new leak from j0nathan states that this feature and potentially other magical elements have been scrapped under Guesdon’s orders.
Guesdon is no stranger to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, having held prominent roles tied to the development of multiple gamers in the series. He joined Ubisoft Montreal in 2005 as a production coordinator and was credited in that role for the first Assassin’s Creed game. Perhaps most notably, he has served as creative director for both Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins, which are widely regarded as two of the best games in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Reactions to this report seem to be generally positive, with many seeing the elimination of magic as a sign that the series is getting back to its roots. Additionally, j0nathan has noted that the recent decisions may even allow Ubisoft to push up the game’s release date. He was also fielded a question regarding the truthfulness of the rumors that Ezio Auditore may make a surprise appearance in Assassin’s Creed Hexe, though he declined to comment, instead responding with only a smirking face emoji.
