Rumor: More Call of Duty Games Could Be Coming to Xbox Game Pass Soon

A new rumor claims Microsoft and Activision are planning to bring more classic Call of Duty titles to Xbox Game Pass this year. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard nearly three years ago, the company has steadily been adding numerous titles from the developer to its lucrative subscription service, Xbox Game Pass. However, a recent shake-up with the introduction of a new Gaming CEO has already seen some major changes.

It seemed inevitable that when Activision was purchased by Microsoft in 2023, Call of Duty would become a day-one release for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. That day soon came with the launch of Black Ops 6 in 2024, marking a historic moment for both the franchise and Microsoft’s subscription service. This release strategy continued with Black Ops 7 last year, but is already coming to an end as new Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma recently announced a price cut for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, along with the removal of new Call of Duty titles as a day-one release.

Were Any Call Of Duty Killers Actually Good?

These infamous “CoD killers” never claimed the FPS throne, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t worthwhile games in their own right.

Microsoft Reportedly Adding More Call of Duty Games to Xbox Game Pass

Reducing the price of such a popular subscription service is unprecedented, and although it does mean that any new Call of Duty titles won’t be hitting the service on day one, it looks like Microsoft still intends to bring older entries to Game Pass later this year. According to PC Gamer, who claims to have an inside source at Activision, more Call of Duty games will be added to Xbox Game Pass in 2026. Specifics of which titles will be added and when were not shared, but given that there are only six mainline entries on the service right now, there are plenty of options for the company to choose from.

The most recent title from the series to join Xbox Game Pass was 2019’s Modern Warfare, which only joined the service just a few days ago. With the iconic reboot now available to all Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass users, it marks the sixth Call of Duty game to join the service. At the time of writing, the following Call of Duty titles are available on Xbox Game Pass:

  • Call of Duty: WWII (2017)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (2024)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (2025)

Many recent installments seem to be making their way to Xbox Game Pass, but it’s hard not to notice the absence of some major titles. 2020’s Black Ops Cold War, for example, a beloved entry in the subseries, has yet to hit the service. And, although much more divisive, 2021’s Vanguard is also yet to join Game Pass. Rumors regarding the latter have been circulating recently, as some eagle-eyed fans noticed that the title has now been added to Xbox PC, suggesting that Microsoft is gearing up to add Call of Duty: Vanguard to Game Pass in the near future.

What fans really want to see is the addition of the true classics, like the original Modern Warfare series and even the very first few installments, such as 2003’s Call of Duty, its 2005 sequel, and many more. Whether or not this will soon become a reality remains unknown, but fans who are disappointed over the recent news that new Call of Duty titles won’t hit Game Pass on day one should take comfort in knowing that Microsoft hasn’t ditched the series from the service altogether. Sharma’s statement confirms that new Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available.
