While leaks and rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt, a recent one claims that Star Wars fans can look forward to the third Jedi game arriving in Q4 2026, and that it will focus on Cal Kestis’ ongoing struggle with the Dark Side. When Respawn announced Jedi: Fallen Order during E3 2018, Star Wars fans weren’t quite sure what to make of the game. Some likened it to God of War, others to Jedi Academy and The Force Unleashed. Eight years on, a beloved franchise emerged in the wake of that announcement trailer, with Fallen Order and Survivor considered to be among the best Star Wars games in the Disney era – compared positively against classics such as Knights of the Old Republic and Jedi Outcast.
The most recent entry in the franchise, Jedi: Survivor, launched in April 2023, and though it was praised for expanding on the gameplay of Fallen Order, as well as for providing a satisfying middle chapter to Cal Kestis’ story, performance issues plagued the game for the better part of its release year. Despite this, it sold over 600,000 copies in the first week alone, with Electronic Arts reporting that Jedi: Survivor performed above expectations in 2023 and 2024. Many players were wondering when Respawn would be ready to talk about the third Jedi game, and all signs point to the date being sometime in May 2026.
Star Wars Jedi Has Hit a Ceiling That Might Be Difficult to Break
EA and Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi series may have difficulty expanding one major feature in the inevitable Star Wars Jedi 3.
Jedi: Survivor Sequel Allegedly Features Cal’s Daughter and Struggle Against the Dark Side
According to Cursed_69420, and allegedly obtained via his friend’s contact at Respawn, the third Jedi game will pick off where Jedi: Survivor‘s story left off. Cal Kestis will be raising his daughter alongside Kata, while at the same time struggling with the Dark Side, a plot thread that was introduced in the final chapters of the second game, but never properly explored. The main theme of the narrative will be about obtaining serenity, highlighted with a moment where Cal will purify a lightsaber’s crystal from red to white. It is unclear whether this saber belongs to Dagan Gera, Bode Akuna, or if it’s his own.
From a gameplay standpoint, the leak claims that the third Jedi game will feature a Double Blaster stance, an evolution of one of the most popular playstyles in Jedi: Survivor. It is also implied that while it won’t affect the ending of the game, players will be able to make decisions throughout the campaign as Cal, in a similar fashion to Ghost of Tsushima‘s Ghost and Samurai choices. That being said, the source provided an interesting explanation of how Jedi: Survivor was developed compared to Jedi: Fallen Order.
The first game’s writing was largely finished by the time production began, whereas Survivor‘s story was being written in parallel with its hectic development. According to the source, the third game’s production is mirroring that of Jedi Survivor, which may or may not affect the quality of the writing. As for when Star Wars players can expect an announcement of the third Jedi game, the leak claims that May 4, 2026, is the date to look out for. Though the source lists Q4 2026 as the tentative release window, it also notes that EA may likely move it to Q1 2027 due to Grand Theft Auto 6‘s launch.
The third entry in the Star Wars Jedi franchise has been in development since 2023. Its original director, Stig Asmussen, parted ways with Electronic Arts later that same year, leaving the game in the hands of Respawn’s other veterans. Though it remains to be seen how Respawn’s vision for the sequel will compare to its predecessors, it’s fair to say that Star Wars fans are excited to see the conclusion of Cal Kestis’ story.
