Rumor: The Sims Project Rene Images Allegedly Leaked

A group of early screenshots from Project Rene has reportedly leaked online, giving one of the first looks at the long-rumored game. The images show everything from character customization to roaming the world in the mobile-exclusive The Sims spin-off.

The life simulation franchise from Maxis has seen plenty of rumors and speculation from fans, with few official confirmations. Maxis and EA have not yet made an official announcement about the next main-series game more than a decade after the original release of The Sims 4. Project Rene was long rumored to be the in-development name for The Sims 5, though Maxis quashed those rumors and confirmed that it will actually be a spin-off developed primarily for mobile devices. Now, new leaks may be giving fans their first look at what to expect from Project Rene when it releases.

What Project Rene Could Learn From The Sims’ Weirdest Expansions

The Sims as a franchise has always thrived on weirdness, and Maxis would be wise to ensure that Project Rene honors this series tradition and tone.

New Leak Potentially Teases Project Rene Gameplay

A new leak shared on the SimsCommunity fan website is showing off early gameplay of Project Rene. The images came as part of an anonymous email to the forum, showing off several screenshots of the game. The screenshots give an early look at the user interface for Project Rene, showing off the title screen, character customization, and choosing the player’s initial style. Project Rene will also feature some open areas for players to explore, showing off both a town square and a park that players can visit. One image also teases a potential event for Project Rene, with a timer for the player to dress up their Sim.

The suite of new images from Project Rene comes as the mobile game will reportedly feature some significant changes from the main series. Project Rene is expected to focus on multiplayer gameplay, starkly contrasting the typical single-player style of the main-series games. Leaks from the mobile game have suggested that it will be geared towards the franchise’s customization elements, including modular furniture pieces that can be freely rotated and layered clothing. Maxis has not officially confirmed a release date for Project Rene.

The upcoming release of Project Rene will occupy a markedly different space within the franchise than other Sims games. Maxis has gone on record that Project Rene will not “kill” The Sims 4, with the mobile game not intended as a full replacement for the fourth Sims game. The Sims 4 has continued to receive new updates over the more than ten years since its release, most recently launching the Royalty & Legacy expansion on February 12. The Sims 4 has also been the subject of some more unexpected rumors about the future of the series.

With fans still waiting for more news about The Sims 5, rumors have also surfaced about a remaster for The Sims 4. Details about the unexpected remaster first began to surface in November 2025, suggesting that Maxis is working on a “rewrite” of The Sims 4. The remaster was teased as bringing several features added in the game’s expansions, hinting at the inclusion of seasons, open neighborhoods, and milestones from the Growing Together expansion. The future of the Sims franchise looks bright as ever with a multitude of big projects on the way.
