Samson, the new action-adventure game from Just Cause co-creator Christofer Sundberg, has quickly become one of the worst-reviewed video games of 2026, but its creative director says it plans to address the game-breaking bugs and performance issues with continued updates and post-launch support. Samson is currently only available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, but player reviews appear to be mixed, while critic reviews have been much more scathing.
Despite having no guns, Samson instantly drew comparisons to Grand Theft Auto 4 when it was revealed late last year. Set in the gritty, fictional city of Tyndalston, which closely resembles New York City, Samson features brutal beat ’em up combat, intense car chase sequences, and an open world for players to discover. Unlike Grand Theft Auto, however, Samson is much more of a smaller-scale game, where players must complete various jobs around Tyndalston in order to pay off the titular character’s debt to dangerous criminals.

Samson Director Addresses Game-Breaking Bugs
With former Just Cause co-creator Christofer Sundberg at the helm as creative director and founder of Liquid Swords, fans were expecting great things from Samson. Sadly, critics’ reviews have been scathing, and players’ opinions haven’t been much better. As spotted by The Gamer, Samson is now the third-worst-reviewed game of the year, with a Metacritic score of 48. Below it is Tokyo Scramble, with a score of 40, followed by the PS5 exclusive dinosaur game, Code Violet, with an abysmal score of 29. Steam reviews are slightly better, but still “mixed,” with only 53% of the current 1,048 user reviews being positive.
One of the main complaints that appears frequently across numerous Samson reviews is the game-breaking bugs, with some stating that they couldn’t progress past certain points of the story because of the glitches. Thankfully, Liquid Swords has said it intends to continue supporting the title post-launch, with a new update set for Friday, April 10. In a new statement, creative director Christofer Sundberg said the game-breaking bugs and performance issues are “unacceptable.” He goes on to say, “We are committed to the future of both Samson and Tyndalston and this game will grow over time on all fronts; quality, gameplay and content.”
Patch notes for Samson‘s first post-launch update are already live ahead of its release this week, as Liquid Swords is taking aim at several performance-related issues, with a planned fix for stuttering problems. There are also several fixes related to audio, animation, and GPU, as well as the bugs preventing players from progressing through the story. Sundberg says the work on Samson won’t stop there either, as Liquid Swords is also continuing to work on squashing performance issues, improving gameplay, fixing animation problems, and more. “Samson is here to stay and we are not going anywhere,” the director said.

While reviewers have heavily criticized Samson, it hasn’t stooped as low as last year’s worst-reviewed game, MindsEye, which currently has a score of 28 on Metacritic. The first title from studio Build A Rocket Boy, which was co-founded by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, was heavily criticized for its bugs, glitches, lackluster story, poor AI, and “boring” gameplay. However, the studio has recently responded by claiming that there has been corporate sabotage to smear the studio’s name and the launch of MindsEye, with a full investigation currently underway.
