Samurai Space Opera ‘SOL Shogunate’ Announced With Stunning Trailer

Chaos Manufacturing has announced SOL Shogunate, a single-player character action game billed as a samurai space opera. The upcoming title, which appears loosely reminiscent of Stellar Blade, is in development for PC and consoles.

Chaos Manufacturing is a new studio co-founded and led by Guy Costantini, former Global Brand Director at CD Projekt Red and former SVP of Marketing and Publishing at Skydance Interactive. SOL Shogunate was unveiled as the company’s debut title during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, a December 4 showcase and one of the final gaming events of 2025.

10 Games To Play If You Like Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade has many features that make it unique, but these games may satisfy those looking for another gaming experience like it.

SOL Shogunate Reveal Trailer Shows Flashy Astro-Feudal Setting

The game’s reveal trailer introduces a distinctive setting that blends hard sci-fi with Japanese feudalism. The titular shogunate is depicted as a multiplanetary empire spanning the solar system, including a colonized moon, where a significant portion of SOL Shogunate takes place. Halfway through the trailer, a massive, wheel-shaped space station employing rotational artificial gravity appears. Seemingly based on NASA’s Stanford torus design, it evokes the Elysium station from the eponymous 2013 sci-fi flick starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, but with Japanese aesthetic elements such as cherry blossoms.

SOL Shogunate Tells a Tale of Revenge

At its core, SOL Shogunate is a game about revenge. Players are cast as Yuzuki, described as the “heir of a once-powerful samurai family massacred by a rival clan,” now seeking to hunt those responsible and “paint the stars with their blood.” Her quest for retribution will see her clash with a variety of foes, human and robot alike. Among the latter group, a large robotic spider is seen in the reveal trailer, which presents it as a boss fight.

SOL Shogunate Promises Choice-Rich Combat, Dynamic Music, and More

With its sci-fi setting, third-person perspective, fast-paced combat, RPG elements, and a sword-wielding heroine, SOL Shogunate appears to hit many of the same broad notes Stellar Blade does, though it’s still too early to tell whether the similarities between the two run deeper than the surface level. However, as far as combat goes, SOL Shogunate appears to be less of a soulslike experience and more of a character action game with a high skill ceiling and some RPG elements. Yuzuki can wield multiple weapons, each with distinct movesets, and enhance them with elemental effects, depending on what the situation demands. She also has access to a skill tree that includes offensive and defensive upgrades, as well as some quality-of-life features, such as improved vision.

The game is thus expected to offer a degree of build variety, but regardless of weapon or upgrade path, the core combat experience appears focused on speed. Dynamic music that reacts to the player’s actions is also confirmed to be part of package, at least for the game’s multi-phase boss fights that are designed around probing for and exploiting enemy weaknesses. Japanese pop rock band AliA is the first confirmed contributor to the SOL Shogunate soundtrack, with additional artists to be announced. One final detail confirmed about the game concerns its traversal options, with developers saying Yuzuki will be able to navigate the moon’s surface using both a mechanical steed and a monocycle.

SOL Shogunate Availability Details Are Slim

SOL Shogunate currently has no release date or launch window. According to Chaos Manufacturing–associated websites and CEO Guy Costantini’s LinkedIn employment history reviewed by Game Rant, the title has been in development since around 2023. Mid- to large-scale game productions typically take about five years, suggesting SOL Shogunate is unlikely to reach the market in the near future. Its near-complete lack of availability info reinforces that assessment. Chaos Manufacturing says its debut title is in development for both PC and consoles. However, the specific console platforms have yet to be confirmed, with SOL Shogunate currently only listed on Steam.
