Saros Director Dodges Question About Sony Ditching PC Ports

Sony’s next first-party game is Saros, Housemarque’s successor to sci-fi shooter roguelike Returnal. That game came to PC two years after its PlayStation 5 launch. Will Saros get a similar Steam port or remain a console exclusive amid Sony’s new reported shift away from PC? The game’s director isn’t saying.

Gregory Louden, who joined Housemarque from Remedy Entertainment, dodged the question when it was recently put to him by Game Informer. “Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5,” he said during a recent interview. That non-answer comes as Sony has remained silent about growing reports that it’s pulling back from bringing its single-player games to PC.

According to Bloomberg, Sony is not currently planning to release its recent and upcoming blockbusters like Ghost of Yotei and Wolverine on Steam as it has with previous entries in those franchises (yes, I’m treating all of Insomniac’s Marvel games as a “franchise”). Those ports were estimated to have sold poorly relative to Sony’s ambition for the platform, though it’s unclear how much of that comes down to the staggered release strategy and poor marketing.

There’s been speculation that Sony wants to double down on the PlayStation ecosystem, especially as PS5 runs away with this console generation. The PC pullback could also have something to do with Microsoft moving toward a next-gen console that supports rival storefronts and Valve launching the console-like Steam Machine.

Both devices would let you play Sony’s Spider-Man 2 in your living room on non-PlayStation hardware. The company doesn’t seem to want Saros and other games to be a part of that possible future.
