Sekiro Anime Gets A New Trailer

Sekiro Anime Gets A New Trailer

Kadokawa has released the third official trailer for Sekiro: No Defeat, an anime adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2019 FromSoftware-developed action game. Sekiro: No Defeat is currently set for a September 4 release in Japan, where it will receive a 3-week theatrical run. The anime adaptation will then come to US audiences at a later, yet-unspecified date via the streaming service Crunchyroll.

First announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2025, Sekiro: No Defeat is being created by studio Qzil.la, with Kenichi Kutsuna (a key animator on anime like Bleach, One Punch Man, and Naruto: Shippuden) attached to direct. While exact plot details haven’t been revealed just yet, Sekiro: No Defeat seems to be following the general plot of the FromSoftware-developed source material, with the story centering on Kuro, the Divine Heir, and his loyal shinobi protector Wolf.

Phantom Blade Zero is More Black Myth: Wukong Than Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Although it looks very similar to FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Phantom Blade Zero shares a lot more similarities with Black Myth: Wukong.

Sekiro: No Defeat’s Third Trailer Teases Action and Character Relationships

The third released so far, this most recent Sekiro: No Defeat trailer has a runtime of just one minute, but that minute is filled with intriguing story teases and enticing shots of thrilling action set pieces. The first half of Sekiro: No Defeat‘s new trailer focuses on the lord/protector dynamic between Kuro and Wolf, with certain shots showing the young boy laughing beside the stone-faced shinobi. One of the trailer’s lengthier sequences shows Kuro attempting to take the Mortal Blade from Wolf’s back, but failing to overpower the grown warrior.

The second half of Sekiro: No Defeat‘s most recent trailer delivers a lightning-quick montage of action set pieces. Both the first and second boss fights with Genichiro Ashina can be seen in this montage, with the pupil of Tomoe unleashing the same lightning attacks as those in the 2019 Game of the Year winner.

The iconic horse-riding Gyoubu Oniwa can also be seen briefly in the trailer, with shots of the early-game boss coming between a shot of a brutal and bloody beheading and a brief sequence of Wolf parrying a Senpou Temple monk’s melee attacks. A brief shot of Genichiro seemingly fighting Emma can also be seen. The trailer ends with a beautiful shot of Wolf and Kuro overlooking a rippling ocean at sunset.

Generally speaking, this most recent Sekiro: No Defeat trailer has a slightly lighter tone overall than the one released back in March. The March Sekiro: No Defeat trailer featured some genuinely harrowing imagery and teased some psychological horror-esque elements, while this most recent trailer focused more on the lighter moments between Kuro and Wolf and some more action-packed sequences. That said, there’s still an underlying sense of foreboding in this new Sekiro: No Defeat teaser, and it’s clear that the adaptation is not only going to be tackling the game’s darker themes, but possibly putting them front and center in a way that the game might not have.
