Shinobi Art of Vengeance’s Sega Villains DLC Finally Gets a Release Date

Sega has revealed the Villains DLC for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will release on April 3, 2026. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is the latest in the long-running action-platformer series, releasing on August 29, 2025, to extremely positive reviews and putting the franchise back into the public eye. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a successful attempt to modernize the franchise, with some reviews labeling it the best game in the series.

With the overwhelmingly positive reception, it’s no surprise that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is getting DLC. The upcoming Sega Villains DLC will see protagonist Joe Musashi pitted against Goro Majima from the Yakuza series, Dr. Eggman from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and Death Adder from the Golden Axe series, a trifecta of iconic foes from Sega’s rogues’ gallery. Five months after the DLC was first revealed, Sega has finally announced its release date.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance blurs the line between the platformer and beat ’em up genres, improved by Lizardcube’s prior work on Streets of Rage 4.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance’s Sega Villains DLC Will Release April 3, 2026

Thanks to a stunningly animated trailer, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance‘s Villains DLC is now known to release on April 3, 2026. The trifecta of iconic villains will appear as three new bosses, along with six music tracks, five new stages, three more ninpo powers, three new outfits, and two extra boss rush modes. All of this extra content is retailing at a price of $9.99, although owners of the Digital Deluxe Edition will be given the DLC at no additional cost. Fan reception has been extremely positive, with many excited that these new foes may be even more dangerous than Shinobi: Art of Vengeance‘s most intimidating boss.

The announcement trailer oozes the passion and overall quality the developers put into Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, with fans now even more excited about the game’s Villains DLC. With Shinobi: Art of Vengeance stages already offering immense replay value, this extra content is just the cherry on top in a game that offers content in excess. Various fans are also pointing praise towards the price tag of the DLC, with $9.99 for a good chunk of content being a good deal, and even better for Digital Deluxe Edition owners who receive it at no additional cost. It remains to be seen if the new content will hold a candle to the base game or even the animation of the trailer, but fans remain hopeful about what has been revealed so far.

It’s unclear where the Shinobi franchise will be headed following the release of this DLC on April 3, yet with one of Sega’s Super Game titles perhaps releasing this month, the company is clearly not slowing down. Take into account the overwhelming success Shinobi: Art of Vengeance saw upon its release, along with the positive reception to this DLC’s announcement, and a new project for the series at some point in the future is likely. Whether or not a new project will be seen anytime soon is unknown, but with Sega’s recent games mostly receiving great reviews and sales, a future title would likely be another high-quality love letter to the series.
