Sims 3 Fan Finds Katy Perry Expansion Pack CD, But There's a Problem

A fan of The Sims 3 makes an exciting discovery, finding their copy of the game’s Katy Perry-themed expansion, only to learn they are missing a crucial part of the DLC. The life simulation franchise from Maxis served as one of the pioneers of the genre following the first game’s debut in 2000. The Sims has spanned four numbered main-series entries throughout its more than two-and-a-half decades, including multiple spin-offs, with each game also receiving a plethora of expansion packs adding a variety of new content.

The Sims 3 marked a major step forward for the franchise with its 2009 launch, serving as the big new title of the HD era. The game was the first in the series to feature a fully open-world neighborhood, allowing players to explore a variety of different environments beyond their homes. The Sims 3 also introduced the Create-a-Style system to the franchise, allowing players to fully customize their Sims’ outfits within the game. Now, a fan’s fun discovery of an older expansion pack for The Sims 3 has quickly run into a serious problem, as they are unable to download the Katy Perry DLC.

Reddit user FirefighterMean9331 shared their discovery of a fan-favorite Sims 3 expansion, only to be quickly disappointed when trying to use the physical CD. The user shows off a Katy Perry Collector’s Edition disc for the game’s Showtime Expansion Pack, only to discover that the disc needed a code to be installed on their computer. The user noted that they had only found the disc in their CD collection, not coming with any of the materials that were included with the boxed game. The Katy Perry version of The Sims 3: Showtime features some exclusive perks based on the popular musician, including a special downloadable stage venue and fruit-themed clothing based on some of her stage outfits.

The surprising Katy Perry discovery saw plenty of fellow Redditors looking to lend a hand to the Sims fan. One fan remarked that Sims games have always required product keys in order to unlock the game’s expansions, typically contained in the back of the manual for the games. Another fan did share a helpful list of product keys that can be used with The Sims 3‘s Showtime expansion, with the original poster later responding that one of the keys actually worked to get the game running. The user even shared that they had found the disc and code for the Supernatural expansion as well.

The Sims 3 has gone down as one of the most successful games in the Sims franchise, seeing both huge sales success and critical acclaim. The Sims 3 currently sits in the top 30 best-selling PC games of all time, moving more than 7 million copies on the PC alone. The PC version of the game sits as the second-best-selling PC entry in the history of the franchise, only falling behind the original The Sims in all-time sales. The Sims 3 also received the second-most expansion packs in the series, with eleven full expansions, only sitting behind the most recent game in The Sims 4.

After years of rumors, Sims fans have recently started to get a better idea of what the future of the franchise will look like. Maxis officially confirmed in January that Project Rene is not the fifth main-series game like many fans had expected, but rather a mobile spin-off of the franchise. The developer also hinted at the “next evolution” of the series as well, potentially hinting at the continued development of The Sims 5 alongside Project Rene. The Sims fans should have lots to look forward to soon, with multiple new games potentially on the way.
