Snake Eyes Game Remains In Development, But Changes Are Apparently Afoot

Developer Atomic Arcade’s new G.I. Joe game focused on Snake Eyes remains in development following upheaval at the studio.

Hasbro, which owns the IP and the studio, said in a statement to Wccftech that the game is “not canceled.” However, changes are underway behind the scenes.

“The team is currently taking time to evaluate the path forward for the game. While decisions haven’t been finalized, we’re committed to providing updates as soon as we’re able,” Hasbro said.

Questions about the fate of the game and developer Atomic Arcade came to light recently when a developer there said the studio had been shuttered by owner Hasbro. The exact status of the studio right now is unknown, however.

Atomic Arcade was founded in 2021 in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina, and the Snake Eyes game is its first title. The studio is led by Ames Kirshen, an industry veteran who previously worked on Spider-Man games at Treyarch and Marvel games at Raven Software.

Snake Eyes was one of the original G.I. Joe characters from the ’80s, and his enigmatic ninja persona made him a fan-favorite. He’s been featured in every G.I. Joe film to date, including the Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins movie from 2021 that featured Henry Golding in the title role.

In 2024, Hasbro and its subsidy, Wizards of the Coast, invested $1 billion in its video game development business, including Atomic Arcade’s Snake Eyes game.
