Some of the Rarest Platinum Trophies in Gaming History Are Surprising

In late March 2026, a gamer going by Tqvry made history as the first person ever to earn the platinum trophy for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus. The trophy has long been considered one of the most difficult platinums to obtain in any game, due to requiring a player to complete all missions on Turbo mode with the help of an AI bot companion. Said bot companions are notably “artificially stupid” and can often hinder the player more than help. But Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is not the only game with a near-impossible platinum trophy.

According to the Website PSNProfiles, which focuses on tracking trophies for PlayStation games, there are over 90 pages of platinum trophies with an achievement rate of 4% or less. There are even 30+ pages of platinum trophies that nobody has currently achieved, whether due to difficulty, the rarity or unpopularity of the game, or a combination of both. But some of the rarest, still achievable ones can be downright surprising.

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Roguelike rhythm game Crypt of the NecroDancer boasts a platinum trophy, called “NecroMaster!!”, that only 0.15% of all players have obtained. This trophy’s place among the rarest primarily comes from a single one of the other trophies players must complete to earn it: “Lowest of the Low.” The requirements for “Lowest of the Low” are downright draconion, as players must:

  • Clear all nine character stories in a row
  • Not die a single time during said run
  • Not use any items or shrines, or upgrade a character’s gear in any way

Earning this trophy requires extreme skill and precision, with a single mistake often being enough to ruin a run. Crypt of the NecroDancer players generally must practice for many, many hours before they can call this trophy their own.

The NBA Games (And Other Sports Games)

On PSNProfiles, there are multiple games in the NBA series with platinum trophies that have been achieved by only 0.1% of players, despite these basketball simulation titles being relatively popular. Every NBA and NBA LIVE game from 2016 onward has a platinum achievement rate of 0.5% or lower. And NBA is far from the only sports game that fits into this categor—several titles in the FIFA, NHL, MLB The Show, and WWE franchises also see platinum trophies with 0.1% to 0.5% achievement rates.

But why is the series so infamous for near-impossible platinum trophies? The answer lies in a combination of factors. First, players have to master multiple different game modes, including multiplayer ones. Second, several of the games have time-based trophies that can easily be missed if players aren’t playing daily. Finally, there are several missable trophies, such as winning a specific championship when playing through MyCAREER mode.

Super Meat Boy

Another name that frequently makes an appearance in the conversation about difficult platinum trophies is Super Meat Boy, a popular indie platformer released in 2010. With an 0.53% achievement rate on PSNProfiles, the game’s platinum trophy, appropriately titled “Super Meat Boy!”, is quite the achievement indeed. The rarity of this trophy comes from the fact that there is a trophy for clearing each light and dark world without dying—a tricky task in this notably difficult game. Clearing Cotton Alley, the game’s final chapter, without a single death will likely require dozens of hours of practice at the bare minimum.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Although its percentage of achievers has increased over the past several years, Red Dead Redemption 2 still deserves a spot on this list. The epic action-adventure game has been part of the “hardest platinum trophy” conversation since its release in 2018, and earning the trophy “Legend of the West” is still a major achievement. Reaching platinum status for this game requires earning 70 gold medals for completing various story missions, completing tasks in Red Dead Online, fishing, crafting, bonding with horses, and more. It’s an endeavor that requires hundreds of hours of dedication, and those who have earned this platinum trophy are Legends indeed.

Grand Theft Auto 5

From one Rockstar game to another, Grand Theft Auto V’s platinum trophy, “Los Santos Legend,” sits at only 1.5% achievement rate. The trickiness of this trophy primarily relates to the high amount of online content required to earn it. Players have to become “Numero Uno” by being first in all competitive game types in GTA Online, winning in Rally Mode as a co-driver, holding up all 20 stores, and more. This is another platinum trophy that represents hours of commitment, likely well over one hundred. With Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon, many players are definitely wondering if its platinum trophy will be equally tricky to obtain.

Fortnite

Fortnite may well be one of the most popular games in the world, but its platinum trophy is the definition of Ultra Rare. Currently sitting at 0.40% on PSNProfiles, the platinum trophy “Hero of the Storm” requires mastery of multiple modes, maps, and more. PSNProfiles estimates a whopping 999 hours to earn “Hero of the Storm,” with grind-heavy trophies requiring players to build 500,000 Structures, destroy 100 Garden Gnomes, save 10,000 survivors, and fully explore 1,500 zones—and progress for these is only counted if the mission is successful.

Other Honorable Mentions

  • Fall Guys — Although the achievement percentage of “Ultimate Fall Guy” has gradually increased over the years, it is still notably tricky to obtain due to trophies like “Infallible,” requiring players to win five Episodes in a row, and “Big Tease,” in which players must perform an emoji just before winning.
  • Balatro — The low achievement percentage of this trophy is almost entirely due to the required time commitment, as players have to win with every deck on Gold Stake difficulty and earn a Gold Sticker on every single joker.
  • Disco Elysium — Getting this trophy requires at least two playthroughs, and almost every single trophy is missable if players don’t boost the correct stat, examine the correct evidence, or make the absolutely perfect dialogue choice. In-game descriptions of trophy requirements are also frustratingly vague, making this an even harder task.
  • The Truck Simulator games — These require players to drive the equivalent of thousands of real-world miles, representing a pretty intensive grind in order to earn a platinum trophy.
