Some PlayStation gamers are getting discounts for PS Plus, going as high as a whopping 50% off the standard price. While not every PlayStation gamer will qualify, for those who do, it could save them a lot of money on PS Plus.
PlayStation Plus is available in different tiers with different options on offer, like the simple PS Plus Essential plan, which provides access to online games and a free selection of monthly games. Depending on the tier, a player can end up spending anywhere from $80 to $160 USD annually on PS Plus, making it a fairly costly expense for some. As a result, people are always looking for discounts for the service, so this may be a good opportunity to try and get in on.
Major PS Plus Discounts Offered to Subscribers
Numerous gamers have now reported that attempting to cancel their PS Plus subscription has resulted in being offered a significant discount on the service. The exact amount off seems to differ from person to person, and appears to be based off of whether the subscriber has been paying monthly, every three months, or annually. However, users on all three tiers of the service have received the offer. Annual subscribers appear to be seeing offers of anywhere from 25% to 33% off, while those who pay monthly or every three months have seen as high as 50% off if they choose to continue their subscription. The discount length is based upon the user’s subscription, with annual users getting a full year’s discount, while three and one month subscribers get discounts for those durations instead.

It’s worth noting that not every person who has attempted to quit PS Plus has received this offer. While many have been successful, some have gone through the process and not received any kind of enticement to stay. Those who are curious if they can get the discount may want to consider going through the cancellation process up until the final confirmation, and see if the offer is made prior to that point. Worst case, if one fully cancels and doesn’t get the discount option, they can always resubscribe, so there’s no real harm in checking. Given the recent price hikes to PS Plus, however, some players may not want to stick around for the standard price, whether they prefer physical games or not.
While these kinds of offers aren’t unheard of for subscription services online, even outside of PlayStation, some have suspected that the generous discount is currently being offered because of PlayStation’s recent controversy. PlayStation announced that it would be discontinuing physical game discs, which hasn’t gone over well with much of its playerbase. As a result, some gamers have canceled their subscriptions to PS Plus in protest. It’s not clear if PlayStation is purposefully doing this to try and entice players to stay in light of this recent announcement, however.
Some gamers believe that this offer being made indicates that PlayStation is seeing a surge in PS Plus cancellations as protest to the physical media discontinuation announcement. However, no official figures are currently available. There may be better insight into the matter once PlayStation releases a quarterly investor report for this period. Even if the number of cancellations is significant, though, with physical game sales hitting record lows in the prior year and publishers getting higher profit margins from digital games, it may not be enough to make Sony change course.
