Final Fantasy 14 Mobile may be in trouble. The worry over Final Fantasy 14 Mobile was further compounded by the fact that the game’s last major update was released in early 2026, which combined two separate main story updates into a single patch.
First revealed in November 2024 by FF14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is a retelling of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn on Android and iOS. While Square Enix is the main supervisor of the project, FF14 Mobile‘s development is led by Tencent subsidiary Lightspeed Studios. After months of closed beta testing, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile saw a full release in China on June 19, 2025.

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile May Not See a Global Release
Though it is a free-to-play title, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile drew criticism for its monetization model and paywall practices. However, FF14 Mobile may not be around for much longer. According to reports from Japanese media site Kultur (via machine translation), Final Fantasy 14 Mobile may be winding down as the game’s main website has been offline since June 22. As of this writing, trying to access the official Final Fantasy 14 Mobile website returns an error stating that the site cannot be found. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile‘s first anniversary event, which would have been held on June 19, was reportedly skipped. As of this writing, it is currently unclear whether Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will see a global release at all.

Neither Square Enix nor Lightspeed Studios have commented on the status of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile. Given the state of the game, some of the issues that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile players experienced have largely gone unaddressed. Alongside Lightspeed Studios’ continued silence, the player base of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile has reportedly dwindled. Final Fantasy 14 Mobile‘s latest version 2.3 update combined elements from A Realm Reborn‘s Patch 2.4 and 2.5 story updates, which indicated that the game was ready to potentially head toward the Heavensward expansion storyline.
However, Kultur reported that the Heavensward story arc in FF14 Mobile was indefinitely postponed. On the Final Fantasy 14 subreddit, players expressed hope that some of the exclusive cosmetic assets made for FF14 Mobile could be integrated into the mainline version of Final Fantasy 14 at some point in the future. Some of the features that were notably discussed included various hairstyles that are currently not available in the PC and console versions of FF14, along with dyeable mounts and additional dye channels on specific gear pieces.
Despite the grim outlook, Square Enix has some upcoming chances to clear the air about Final Fantasy 14 Mobile. Although all eyes will be on more updates about Final Fantasy 14: Evercold, it is possible that Yoshida and Square Enix could discuss the fate of FF14 Mobile during the upcoming FanFest events in Berlin and Tokyo later this year. The Berlin FanFest is scheduled for July 25 and 26, while the Tokyo FanFest will take place October 31 and November 1.
