RuneScape has a long history of expanding its fantasy world with new quests, skills, enemies, and locations, giving players plenty of reasons to return to Gielinor. Jagex is continuing that approach with a new slate of content for all RuneScape games planned for the coming months, including updates that will introduce familiar creatures and more ways to customize player bases. While some of these additions are arriving before the end of 2026, the developer is already looking ahead to a much bigger chapter in 2027.

December will bring Luminance, a new update that serves as a prelude to next year’s Blood Crystal Saga. The update will introduce elves, new elven-themed customization options for characters and buildings, and the Prayer skill. It’s an early look at the content Jagex has planned for the next stage of its RuneScape universe, with the developer also outlining a broader schedule of updates that will continue throughout 2027.

Song of Rebellion Arrives in RuneScape: Dragonwilds in 2027

The biggest part of that roadmap is Song of Rebellion, which is confirmed to launch in early 2027 as the opening update of the Blood Crystal Saga in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The upcoming content will bring iconic RuneScape enemies such as Moss Giants and Implings into the open-world survival-crafting game, alongside new areas to explore, quests, and gear. Players can also look forward to new decorations inspired by Prifddinas, the classic elven city from RuneScape. Ultimately, Song of Rebellion will kick off a larger storyline that continues to expand the game’s world beyond its current content.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

The Blood Crystal Saga will also introduce new gameplay systems and familiar skills over the course of 2027. Jagex has confirmed that the Hunter and Slayer skills will come to the new title in 2027, hopefully not too long after the Luminance Update adds Prayer to RuneScape: Dragonwilds. These additions will arrive through quarterly updates, giving players larger content drops to look forward to throughout the year. The mix of new skills, quests, enemies, and areas should give Dragonwilds players more ways to develop their characters and explore its version of the RuneScape universe.

Jagex is also planning smaller monthly updates that will add side quests, weapons, decorations, and quality-of-life improvements. Beyond those regular additions, official modding is coming to RuneScape: Dragonwilds in 2027 through a new partnership with CurseForge. The feature will include dedicated creation tools, along with an in-game mod browser and installer, and is planned to be available across all platforms, including consoles. If implemented as outlined, the system will give players more options to customize their experience while opening the door for community-created content.

With Luminance arriving in December and Song of Rebellion beginning the Blood Crystal Saga in early 2027, Jagex is laying out a more structured content plan, storylines, and skills for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Needless to say, the in-depth content plans for the new franchise bode well for its future.
