Songs of the Past DLC Location Teased Ahead of Gamescom

Songs of the Past DLC Location Teased Ahead of Gamescom

The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red’s showfloor presence at Gamescom seemingly teases the new in-game location associated with its upcoming Songs of the Past DLC. Officially billed as an expansion and not a simple DLC, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past releases in 2027 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

While the new Witcher 3 location is yet to be confirmed (and has simply been teased via a Gamescom banner), it’s worth noting that CDPR has confirmed one returning feature for the DLC: Witcher 3‘s Songs of the Past DLC will introduce more Gwent. Given how much fans love Gwent, it’s not surprising in the slightest, but it’s nice to have confirmation all the same.

The Witcher 3 Hits Another Big Milestone Ahead of 2027 DLC

On top of announcing a surprise new expansion coming in 2027, CD Projekt Red has confirmed The Witcher 3 has hit another major sales milestone.

On the left-hand side of the Gamescom banner appears to be artwork of the Belleteyn Festival, a key lore detail that may tease and narrow down the new location. The Songs of the Past title heavily hints at Dandelion’s involvement, as he is the beloved bard of The Witcher 3, and it’s likely he is tied to the Belleteyn Festival. Combined with the coastal elements in the above teaser, it seems likely that Dandelion’s home country of Cidaris is the new region of the DLC. It is a bit of a stretch, but based on everything seen so far, it is likelier than other rumors for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past. Perhaps, even, the DLC begins with Dandelion inviting Geralt and friends to Cidaris for Belleteyn, especially as Yennefer and Ciri have birthdays close to the event.

The good news is the wait for confirmation is almost over. The Witcher 3‘s Songs of the Past DLC is confirmed for Gamescom Opening Night Live, meaning a brand-new trailer is expected for the game. Gamescom Opening Night Live takes place at 11 am PT/2 pm ET on August 25, so as of this writing, that’s only a handful of hours away.

It remains to be seen what else CDPR has in store, meaning new confirmations and the content of the trailer, but it’s been a long time coming. The Witcher 3‘s Songs of the Past DLC leaked online months ahead of its confirmation, and its official announcement was rather thin. Gamescom Opening Night Live will be the first real meaty look at it, and it’ll be interesting to see if fans get an exact 2027 release date (or just the broad 2027 window). In other words, Gamescom is a must-watch event for The Witcher 3 fans.

Meanwhile, CDPR has confirmed that The Witcher 4 is aiming for a 2028 release window. Fans shouldn’t expect to see it there, but the good news is that plenty of Witcher content is on the way.
