Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has received a lot of crossover DLC so far, and Sega has now announced that Godzilla and Evangelion content will be coming in the near future. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was released last year, following several previous games that put the hedgehog mascot behind the wheel. The hook of the game is that Sonic and friends are racing between different worlds, which has opened up the cast to include characters from a number of different franchises.

So far, extra content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has included both free and paid DLC. Crossovers with licensed characters like Pac-Man, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Mega Man are all paid, while Sega-owned characters are free in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. That balance has offered an incentive to keep playing the racing game, even for those that don’t make any extra purchases.

A Sonic CD Remake Might Be in Development

Former Sega executive Mike Fischer claims that a remake of one of the best Sonic the Hedgehog games is currently in development.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two DLC

Sega previously teased content beyond Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds year one, but fans could be forgiven for thinking the publisher abandoned the idea as a result of low sales. However, at Summer Game Fest, the publisher started to pull back the curtain on its plans for year two. After the current season pass ends, another six DLC packs will be released. Two have been officially revealed: Godzilla and Evangelion. A new trailer was also released, offering a glimpse at the new tracks based on these two franchises.

At this time, a release date has not been announced for either DLC pack. The current season pass still has some characters left to be added, and Sega has confirmed that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pack will come to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sometime in July. That pack will add Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, and October’s Avatar pack will add Aang and Katara. Both packs will also feature vehicles, courses, and music inspired by their respective franchises.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, and all of this is part of Sega’s plans to celebrate the occasion. In addition to the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds news, the publisher announced Sonic Pico Park, a collaboration with developer TECOPARK. Details about the game are slim, but the gameplay seems similar to Pico Park, while featuring Sonic characters and elements. At this time, Sega has yet to address the leaked Switch 2 version of Sonic Frontiers, but that could also be released before the end of 2026. Between the DLC, Sonic Pico Park, and a possible new release for Sonic Frontiers, fans should have plenty of opportunities to commemorate 35 years of the blue blur and his friends.

Since the game’s release last year, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has gotten a lot of praise. Sales might have been slower than Sega hoped for, but the game has been able to distinguish itself from Mario Kart, and that’s not an easy task for most mascot racers on the market. The publisher clearly hasn’t given up on the game, and that’s great news for those who have invested in the first season pass and are still eager for more content over the coming months.
